Zero people on this board know what the trade discussions between the Leafs and the Canucks were, or if there were any at all.

Zero people on this board know what other teams were offering for Luongo.

This is a bunch of pathetic speculation by hysterical teenagers. Does not belong on this board. Does not belong anywhere. Maybe in a 12 year-old's basement with his buddies playing xbox.

Try to limit your discussion on this board to items such as the following actual hockey related issues:
  1. Vancouver has the best record in the league over the past ten games while missing a number of key players
  2. Vancouver has the best goaltending tandem in the league

Also, why would Vancouver lower their price at the deadline in a trade for futures? Nothing helps them now either way (they had $7M they could have added to LTIR if a player they wanted was actually available). If Gillis traded Luongo for a 3rd rounder, then Schneider got hurt at the end of the season or in the playoffs, it would be Gillis' head if the Canucks got bounced early.
Then Luongos comments make no sense at all. It's obvious he wants to start somewhere rather than back up. GM don't screw with players that way

This thread was in the NHL Talk Forum when I posted that.

My point stands, though.

Luongo wants to start somewhere but he realizes that he can't right now.

The guy is a competitor and a pro. He realizes that he lost the starting job to a guy that was playing better (really who hasn't Schneider played better than over the last three years - maybe only Lundqvist). If he was playing better than Schneider, he would be a starter. his contract isn't what lost him the starters job and I think as a pro, he realizes that and accepts it. I doubt Luongo blames Gillis for the fact that he's not a starter, it's his job to be better than the guy trying to take his job and he knows it.

Despite all the stuff that was reported about the press conference, the most important thing Luongo said was basically that he's going to go home and get re-focused and that was going to be a good teammate and do whatever he could to help the team and that he was going to dedicate himself 100% to the team.

Everyone knows he'd rather be a starter but he also knows that he and the team doesn't have any options until after the season so he might as well make the best of it. Everyone also knows that Vancouver is going to have to move Luongo this off-season, Gillis has basically stated as much and Luongo will likely press the team harder to get it done. The question is who will be interested but it seems pretty clear that a few teams were at least interested this trade deadline (with Vancouver holding out for more). The asking price will drop at the draft but is that really a big deal when the suggested return was so low anyways?

The press conference was Vancouver's way of clearing the air and making the Luongo situation a non-issue going forward. It seems the team is focused on the playoffs as the rest of the team's in the NHL should be.

Damien Cox has zero credibility and has proven that in the past regarding the "death" of Pat Burns.

Quote:
The story had its genesis in wire service reports describing Burns taking a turn for the worse in Quebec last Thursday. The next day, a shaken Toronto Maple Leafs executive Cliff Fletcher told several reporters that he'd heard Burns had passed away. It made sense in the context of the previous day's story about Burns's declining health. Without consulting Burns's family or double checking the story, Damien Cox of The Toronto Star reported Fletcher's story on his Twitter account. Within an hour the story was viral.

edit

At least Ferraro and Krystal wore the blame. Cox offered no apology, explaining it away as "an honest mistake" on the part of a distraught Fletcher. No mention of having failed himself to get a primary source with the Burns family or a secondary source to verify the story - the basics of reporting. This was no honest mistake, just a breakdown in the reporting process to claim primacy on a hot-sounding story. Blaming Fletcher was self-serving.

Cox has obviously been sharing notes with Aaron Ward lately.

Not at all but it doesn't surprise me that a lot of you think this is true. Pay closer attention to what media personalities say about the Maple Leafs next time before forming such an opinion.

Damo putting his spin on things.

Good for Gillis for trying, if true, but I don't believe what Cox has to say. The guys a troll in the flesh
