I just noticed Zuccarello taking really short shifts tonight, only two shifts over a minute, and then just barely 1:07 and 1:10. A shame, cause he played really well too.

He and Richards have been good together. Kind of makes you wonder where the team would be if he was brought back earlier

He should play to his strengths, but he needs to learn to not be so predictable, and not always look for the pass. It'll make him easier to shut down. Hopefully he can work on his shot over time - like he has with his skating and strength.
As I'm a Leafs fan (I come in peace) I don't follow the Rangers closely, but I believe he took a few shots during his last couple of stints. Fairly sure he's aware that he can shoot and that he should shoot to mix it up a bit. I'd guess it was his wrist that keeps him from doing so.

“I just think some of the personnel is playing better,” said coach John Tortorella, who has added diminutive Norwegian winger Mats Zuccarello to his first unit. “I think Zuke has added something to it, and we’re finding a way to score goals.”
In a stretch of 11 games from March 12 to April 1, the Rangers went 2-for-23 and it seemed like no matter how good the chances were, they couldn’t get a goal. Saturday night, Brad Richards made a terrific pass from behind the net to set up Stepan, and Zuccarello made a patient pass to Nash in the slot for the second one, which gave the Rangers a 3-0 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

“There has been much more puck possession with it,” said Tortorella, whose power play is 5-for-11 in the past three games.

Nash buried the Rangers’ second power-play goal of the game off a pass from Mats Zuccarello at the point that just wasn’t seen on this team two weeks ago.

His forechecking is terrible but his skating is much improved, and his vision is probably the best on the team. Reminds me a little of a slower Hemsky.

guy is awesome.. very underrated in the sense that he picks pockets and creates turnovers like step.. and his vision is supreme.. i like his play so far, and its good to be rewarded like his assistant on nash's goal..

keeper IMO so far...

There's nothing wrong with his wrist, he just came from a full KHL season. There he had 13 goals and 19 assists in 51 games. During his last stint with the Rangers in the 10-11 season he only had 6 goals in 42 games, but he also had 17 assists.

Dont expect him to score a lot, he says the most important for him is to be part of a play and create scoring chances. But I agree, he should shoot more instead of just passing to others for them to finish. Goals count when it comes to personal success, a lot of hard work but few goals will not be noticed that much for a forward.

… Zuccarello nearly scored his first goal of the season on a first-period race down the right wing and a juke that Ellis saved with his right pad. The little Norwegian only played 12:46 but had four shots on goal and again was one of the Rangers’ best players …

He is so smart with the puck. Almost never gives stupid passes. Always trying to make a smart play. His vision is incredible. I like him a lot!!!

The reason Zucc only played 12:46 last night is that we spent a total of 10 mins in the penalty box, or half a period. That leaves him on the bench since hes not on the pk-teams. Nash only played 14:17, that was a little surprising.

I wonder how many people wrote St.Louis (Martin) off when he was 24-25 years because he did not start producing before the age of 26-27

Not that I think Mats will get to his level. But its about development and adjustment. It takes time.

Since he like the guys on the team so much I think he wont demand so much in salary if he resigns.

I hope he improves his shot though. Last night he fired 4 of them and that must have been a record for him in NYR

Well, we also had 5 powerplays, where Zucc had limited ice time, in favor of Boyle. That doesn't make sense.

Of the 5 penalties we had, 2 were Boyle's, so he missed of PK-ing. Yet, he had more ice time than Nash. It just doesn't make sense.

Zuccarello is a great guy. He prefers palying for the Rangers over earning more money in Russia. That says a lot!

I think Sather will try to find a way to re-sign him for next year, simply because offense is so hard to find in this league and Zuccarello represents an affordable offensive option.

I think he is scheduled for a wrist operation this off-season, so it can't be perfect. Concerning his KHL production I don't think it is representative as he was both injury plagued and Metallurg was gambling hard on the lock-out to last all season, playing Malkin, (Kulemin and Mozyakin) half an hour in every game including pp without Zuke. When he finaly got top minutes in the play off, the whole team sucked. If he gets chances like now in a line with chemistry and a sniper or two besides him, I bet he can become close to a ppg player in the NHL.

zuke is skating so much better than before, seems both stronger and faster the last 3 games..

He's playing balls to the walls each shift, you know....like he has nothing to loose and a contract to gain...

Unfortunately there is. It.s from the injury that broke the wrist, while blocking a shot for Rangers last spring.
He has stated that the wrist has bothered all season, and Mettalurg wanted him to have a surgery right after WC.

He knows how to score, look at his career statistic
http://www.capgeek.com/player/1777
Especially when playing for Norway national team, he has almost as much goals, as helpers.

I hope so. I hate the idea that a third line has to be all checking guys. I'd love the creativity of Zuke on the third line.

Hell, he's technically playing on our second line now and he doesn't look out of place so that works too.

I would love to see him enter next season 100 percent healthy, playing top six minutes and the confidence that he won't ride the pine (or the bus in AHL) if he make a little mistake. Wouldn't be suprised if he put up 50-70 points over a full 82 game season.

Well, I was wrong about him. One thing that impresses me is how comfortable he feels with the puck on his stick. He's silky smooth at slowing down the game in the offensive zone waiting for an open player to emerge.

He's looking more confident, and he's right now the best playmaker on the team. His vision is elite.

He may be the best pure offensive player on this team with the puck on his stick and I disagree with the people saying his forechecking has been bad. I have seen him pick multiple peoples pockets in his few games back. He deserves to stay and he deserves to get more ice time.

I agree. His forechecking has been better than average for this Rangers team. He gets these strange labels on him that just do not hold water.
