I think he's been a bit up and down between lines this season. Would believe he is shipped to Admirals for next season now that his team got relegated. Perhaps he would anyway but...

I was just going through the SEL point leaders to see how Friberg and Karlsson rank relative to others this season. Holy crap, scoring seems to have exploded there. There's a dude with 71 points in 55 games. Generally the best players are just slightly above PPG.

edit: It turns out that's the 2nd highest scoring single season point total ever. The record is 76 by Hakan Loob. Second place this year is 60 points, which is 11th in the Elitserien record books.

To get a better sense of where they rank look at u-24 and u-20
U-24:

Note that Friberg and Karlsson are at the lower end of the age range.

U-20:

If Friberg were a few months younger he'd be 4th on this list.

23 shots to 4 halfway into the 2nd period of the Kitchener game. I don't care how good Gibson plays, he'll end up in Norfolk by the end of the week if his team keeps playing that way.

Finished 37 to 30, they still lost 4-1 (PP and EN goal).

Rakel 1g+1a +2, they won.

Wow. Thanks for that nice nugget of info. Gives a good perspective on our prospects across the pond.

You know, with no roster limit and Norfolk's goaltending already set, I wonder if they wouldn't just have him report straight to Anaheim. Third goalie's can be important, and if he's going to be one, it might as well be with the big club.

He could probably get a game or two in Norfolk though, while here he'll just be chilling most of the time other than practice.

While what you say makes sense, considering what they did with Rakell earlier this year, it wouldn't surprise me if they brought him here for the experience of seeing an NHL playoff push first hand as well as getting to practice with the NHL.

Have him here to practice, and then they have an emergency backup on hand also incase something goes wrong. Don't wanna have to dress a local in the playoffs.

What your saying does make a good point.

Third goalies can be pretty important, I know quite a few times we've traded for one at the deadline just in case(Caron, Aubin, MacDonald). Plus, with Norfolk in a playoff push of their own, I doubt they throw in the new, young goalie in. I imagine it's Andersen the rest of the way, and they'd probably throw Bobkov in over Gibson to give him a spell.

So, yeah, I'd rather him up here working with Peeters than with Roloson and experiencing an NHL playoff push. I believe recalls are limited until the playoffs too, so that's a factor.

Karlsson's +17 blows everyone away.

I wouldn't mind seeing Gibson with the big club for practices

And if theres a injury I would feel 100% better with him being the emergency goalie then a guy who hasn't played in 10 years.

Kitchener drops another game. They're now 0-2. Gibson with 28 saves on 30 shots.

That will likely not happen again for a long time. It was a one off because Bobkov couldn't get here on time.

Rakell picked up an assist in Plymouth's loss. They are now even at 1-1 in their series.

Kind of feel bad for Gibby. He's fighting, but the guys in front? Not so much.

The funny thing is, this is something that's happened maybe two or three times before this season, and there's already been three of them this season(two of them being the Ducks). Shouldn't happen again, but when your AHL affiliate is that far away, it's certainly plausible.

Wait that happened before for us this season? When was that and how did I miss it?

uhmuhmuhm

Pretty sure it was in Minnesota when Fasth had his lower body injury. They picked up a local Goalie coach to fill in until JDD arived about 6 minutes into the first.

Yeah, they interviewed him after the first period. He somehow had practiced with the Ducks previously so they knew about him and he just happened to be local to MIN. The guys remembered him from the blue goalie gear when he practiced with them.
