We are in year 9 of our rebuild. We have assets to be a contender. I was certainly not always that impressed with how we played last season, but Hank was fantastic.
I was arguing against the point that players get worse under Torts. We can talk about verge players becoming full timers or whatever other circumstances all day. The point is most players got better and/or stayed the same under Torts yet people keep talking about how he ruins them.

Find me a team that you'll always be impressed with throughout a whole season and that doesn't depend on their best player to get them through games. I'll be waiting. People want the team to be something that no team will ever be, they want it to be flawless and not depend on the best players to win. Good luck with that.

i disagree. i dont like boyle at all but his PK and faceoff abilities are useful. but watching him do anything related to offense is literally painful to watch. if the coach is going to keep giving him 17 minutes a night, then yes he needs to get the hell off this team.

theres nothing wrong with relying on your best player sometimes, but i think whats frustrating is that this team seems to do it night in and night out. like last night, they were content with sitting back in the 3rd and let hank face 20 shots, that, imo, is unacceptable. this is nothing new though, hank has had to bail this team out his entire career.

I dont get it. Who else would you prefer on the third line? And please dont say Kreider or Miller, who have both proved they need some legitimate AHL time -- say what you want about the coach, but that became very evident throughout the season. I thought Boyle has looked good on the wing, other than that stupid pass in the neutral zone where he thought he was Wayne Gretzky last night. Boyle will never ever ever be able to distribute the puck like a top nine center should. The move to the wing has allowed him to simply his game. In a season where hes been really, really bad, I find it odd that he seems to be getting bashed more the week hes playing well.

As for the PP, whats the point in complaining now when the PP, with a Boyle a part of it, is actually clicking for the first time in forever. I've come to really like that Boyle, Brassard, Clowe unit. They keep it simple out there, and have produced results

I don't think they were "content" with that at all. They were playing the last period of a back to back and it was showing. It's easy to say it was a lack of effort when you're not on the ice for two NHL games in two nights. Also, I'm not really on board with complaining about a performance after a win. Winning is the goal, not assembling a team that nobody on the internet can find a shred of flaw in. Every team is flawed, good teams hide their flaws by winning in spite of them. If the team wins consistently, I don't care who's on the roster, who's behind the bench, or who's bailing who out how often.

Really, the Hank talk comes from a back and forth we were having about last year. Over the course of the last few years, yeah, he's bailed them out more than they deserved. But, I disagree with the notion that last year's success somehow had nothing to do with coaching because Hank was incredible. The entire team played D in a way that gave him a nice foothold. The same gameplan that people are whining about incessantly this year gave Hank a big hand last year. Yeah, the team had problems, but every team does. Yeah, they relied on Hank to steal games, but every team relies on their best players to steal games. Last year was a success for the team, for the players and for the coach. Whether or not it was the sole high point of this period of the team is yet to be determined.

Can i get a recap? Does everyone still want Tortorella fired or is he safe now that the team won a few games?

Team played like garbage, boring non-breakout hockey. Credit to him for improved special teams, but the ES game is still a travesty to watch.

I'd say he's safe based off the Gaborik trade.

are you serious??

Zucc isn't riding the pine.. hes on the real first unit.. the thing is since the trade the line up richards, girardi, boyle clowe and brass have like 4-5 pp goals.. what do you want the coach to do if that line is contributing... boyle stays infront screens the goalie.. your ****ing brillliant.. i mean boyle is the center of so much unnecessary ****!!

and with the effort in the 3rd.. we just played the night before against pitt in a hard fought game.. guys are going to be tired.. along with our bs penalties we took we never gained momentum.. everyone relax.. enough with the boyle ****.. the guy works hard and hasn't looked out of place out on the 3rd line wing..

torts knows what he;s doing and if Kreider/Miller were able to play they would be up here.. he gave them every opportunity and they weren't ready..

he handle so many rookies here already in his tenure here and he deff didn't handle them any different..

I don't care if Boyle stays on the 3rd or 4th line wing. I didn't say anything about his position in the 3rd or 4th line. I don't want Kreider or Miller anywhere on this team this year.

What I said was keep him off the PP and stop giving him 20 minutes a night unless it is justified through taking too many penalties. It's ridiculous. Boyle does not need to play 20 minutes a night. He's a big goof with zero offensive anything.

I'm glad the PP is clicking, but it is not because of Boyle.

It's not unnecessary. The guy sees the ice way too much. Boyle screens the goalie, that's great except that Clowe does the same thing and can actually bring some offense. It's redundant and stupid. Boyle had almost a full minute more of PP ice-time than Zucc.

The amount of talent on this team especially young talent is very deep with one of the best goalies in the world. This team wins in spite of Tortorella not because of Tortorella.

Brian Boyle has seen 20 or more minutes exactly zero times this year. But why let facts ruin a fun narrative?

thats deff true.. the first time you said it I was a little confused and like WTF haha but the thing is torts isn't over thinking this one and messing with something thats working.. especially since we sucked all year.. brought in new faces.. players raised levels and we're having success... but i see your point..

He got 19:18 last night. That's 20 ****ing minutes.

Don't even come in here talking about distorting the facts, your bias for Tortorella is beyond any semblance of objective discussion.

Edit: That's also not even the point. Anything over 12 minutes is too much for that goofus unless there are a ton of penalties and icings.

He was probably just picking a rounder number. I think he played 19 and change last night.

19:18 is actually in fact not 20. But regardless, your first post is *****ing about this 20 minutes stuff happening on a nightly basis ("stop giving him 20 minutes a night" as if it's an on going thing that has been happening a lot and looks like it will continue to happen a lot), which I proved with objective facts (TOI numbers) was incorrect. He has not logged 20 minutes even once this year, your anti-torts hatred clearly has blinded you if you continue to go down this path. Just man up and admit you were mistaken, or don't but just stop with this 20 minutes crap. I'll take your silence as a tacit admission of guilt.

i guess "Stop giving him 15+ minutes a night" is more reasonable. which is 5+ minutes more than he should be getting.

20 minutes a night is going to happen when you play in all situations, and with this coach, Brian Boyle is an all situations player.

Get used to seeing Boyle 18+ minutes a night as long as he's here and Tortorella is here.

Yay! More Brian Boyle missing the net on rebounds on the powerplay! Cup, here we come.

Callahan and Stepan are the only forwards who should be used in all situations. IDK why Torts has decided to give Boyle even more offensive situation time.
