Look at the number of penalties our veterans on defense are taking (kimmo and coburn), mostly because they don't trust Bryz to make a save.. ever. When you can't be confident your goalie will keep you in a game, it's hard to play a motivated and confident game at all.
I'm wondering if the team that came out in the third was no different than the team that came out in the second, how come another four goals wasn't tallied against us?

Some people will defend certain players to the death regardless of how terrible they play.

The flyers could trade bryz for lundqvist and BP74 would think it's a bad trade.

And yet the rest of HFBoards still thinks our defense sucks...

Our defense sucks like 2nd rounders are valuable assets.

**** Bryzgalov. I know he won't be bought out until the summer of 2014, but I want it to happen now. You can't pay Michael Leighton 5.67m/year. It doesn't work.

EDIT:

Also, fun...

Bryzgalov

The guys on CBC were really having a field day with Bryzgalov during yesterday's broadcast, it was insane. At first I was chuckling with them, but then it just became ridiculous. First it was Healy who, when showing a harmless Jokinen shot, said that Bryz is the only goaltender in the NHL you can beat from there. Then he sarcastically remarked he edged out Al Montoya in save percentage and that his GAA edges out Garon, and that these are indeed lofty numbers. Then he tried making a joke by asking how they win in Philly, and answering himself they pray, which is when PJ Stock jumped in and laughingly added they just have to score more goals than the other team. The entire crew, but Friedman, was pretty much laughing at that point.

Oh, and I don't know who the play-by-play guy was as I don't watch CBC usually, but I found it interesting he touted Jeff Reese as "a real good hockey man and a strong strong goalie coach with a lot of patience"

Just thought I'd let those of you who were lucky enough to watch the Comcast broadcast know what you missed out on.

So, is Bryzgalov the worst starting goalie in Flyers history?

I think we're getting to the point where we can safely have that discussion.

I think the difference in cap hit, and the impact it has on the construction of the team might edge Leighton out.

While Leighton has the honors of worst pivotal post season goal against in Flyers history, he is hardly the worst starter we have ever had as he posted a 16-5-2 record and a 2.48 GAA .920 in the only season he was given the starter position.

Out of the ones I have personally seen played, Nittymaki is hands down the worst with his best year being a 15-8-6, 2.76, .912 after four years with us.

I know Leighton's numbers aren't necessarily that bad, but the guy had been waived 3 or 4 times prior to coming to the team and played behind one of the most solid group of defensive players we had ever seen here. Losing Pronger reaaaaally sucks.

I wouldn't put much stock in Leighton's numbers that year. I would call that the Pronger effect.

Nitty wasn't that bad. Hip problems really slowed him down.

I'm still going with Leighton as the worst Flyers goaltender ever. The goal in game 6 is too much to over come. I cringe when ever I hear the words Michael Leighton.

The only starting goaltender with a worse save percentage than Bryz is Kiprusoff. Embarrassing.

All 3 were free agents coming from weak teams that made them look like superstars and once they were paid immediately turned into Bums. What's with the people that think Philly is in the wrong for criticizing overpaid bums?

I think we should trade Bryz back to Phoenix since Mike Smith isn't working out for them.

My thing with Nitty is, his cap hit (if I remember correctly) was small. So he didn't have as much impact on the team's ability to get talent at other positions. I think he helped his legacy with the team by being a solid backup as well. To boot, he was young and unproven. I never had much expectation for him, so he never really trashed my expectations in the way Bryz has.

Nothing Bryz has done has helped improve his legacy. It's pretty much been downhill from the start.

If we're going to factor in contracts/cap hits then 100% he is the worst, I really don't see how anyone could argue otherwise.

I really doubt Phx would trade for him, nor should they. There is still a lot of real world dollars left on his salary that they could save and use on more effective players.
