Chad Durbin is a trainwreck.

Does it really matter what innings they show up? When a team scores 8 runs, that should be well enough to win. This is on the pitching.

Hamels and Manuel are to blame imo. Durbin shouldnt even be in the MLB, let alone pitching in a close game.

Now I'm even more pissed at the managing decisions. Durbin in to face Billy Butler. Just stupid beyond words. If Charlie is going to keep making stupid decisions like this than I really think it's time for him to go.

I agree but the fact the comeback started in the 9th makes it that much harder. Not the same to me as scoring 5 runs distributed in other innings. It might sound dumb, but it makes sense to me lol

It's not like they went to sleep they had hits throughout the day. They faced James Shields and got 4 runs. That's plenty against a pitcher of his caliber. The offense did all they could today. Hamels sucked and Manuel keeps making stupid decisions.

This team is at least 4-2 without those two factors. Hamels will be fine but I'm not sure about Manuel.

Manuel has made dumb decisions consistently through his entire tenure with the Phils. It's just hurting the team more now because they aren't as good. His strength has always been with how he handles the players, not with his strategy.

Hopefully they can beat on the mets a little and get over 500. Don't really like our chances though w/ Halladay going tonight (wow, never thought I'd say that )

Halladay, for his struggles last game, still managed to get 9 Ks in 3 1/3... that has to mean something right? He's still got some stuff.

Charlie has his "boys" and he sticks to them, does that mean he should? No. But he does anyway.

The big issue here is that this team can no longer have a manager who doesn't know the strategy. Before the Phillies could outhit their opponent or outpitch the opponent. Now they need to be smart to win games. Years ago Manuel could plug in any lineup and they would score. In 2008, he called on any bullpen arm and they would get outs. He can't do that anymore and he is being exposed badly by better gameday managers.

I could handle the dumb decisions before cause they really weren't hurting the team. However, I honestly think it's gotten worse with extreme loyalty to veteran guys and misuse of the young guys. Whether you like Brown or not, he is the best young bat on the roster. The Phillies need him to be good. But over the past two games Manuel has blamed him for a loss and he's benched him halfway though the game. He is so blantantly biased and it is unacceptable. Going to his buddy Durbin for the third game straight in a high pressure situation is unacceptable. Putting a guy in right field who's never played there before is unacceptable.

He is actively losing games for this team because of decisions a five year old knows are wrong. This team is better than this.

It took him what 40 pitches to get out of the first? I'm hoping he'll continue to improve, but if that velocity doesn't come back he's going to have to learn to get guys out different ways. His competitiveness is working against him too, because having that drive (IMO) puts it in his head that he can just straight beat the guy despite what his arm is doing.

I agree. He lost them games last year as well. His refusal to let young players play is incredibly annoying. I feel like this is something new, but maybe I'm just not remembering correctly. I know Utley wasn't yet Utley when Manuel got here, and Howard was still in the minors. Maybe it was due to management moving the players blocking them?

He did hit 92, I believe. Velocity doesn't seem to be as big of a problem as it was last year.

Utley was originally blocked by Polanco before they moved him and Ryan Howard came up because Thome was injured. Both of them were amazing, there was no way they could be sent back down again.

That said, Manuel was just starting with the Phillies around that time. So he watched Utley, Howard, Rollins grow. They are his guys and he will stick with them no matter what. Just moving Rollins out of the leadoff spot was like pulling teeth. Sitting Howard against tough lefties or moving him out of the cleanup spot is unthinkable. Secondly, he plays favorites with some of the guys. Certain guys will be benched immediately while others will get a thousand chances. He likes journeymen ALOT. Guys like Kratz, Martinez, anyone remember Chris Coste? They'll get one big hit and he'll use the excuse to play them everyday.

He's called a players manager cause he believes in his guys but not all of them are in his favor. After the game on Friday, he called out Brown for his dive and said the game was pretty 'much over after that'. So much for standing up for your guys, guess that only applies for players in Charlie's exclusive club

Kratz had 3 strikeouts when he came up to the plate. Maybe try something else? How about Galvis who was awesome in spring training? No one ever seems to remember when these moves don't work out, just when they do making him look awesome. I just want a manager who tries new things, who uses strategy to win games. I don't think these guys need anymore pats on the back, they need a guy with gameday managing skills and willingness to hurt guys feelings every once in a while.

It's painful to see him pitch this poorly.
