Depends how well Drewiske handles the RH side. If he struggles we may need to put Gorges or Bouillon on the RH.

Ryder/Gionta are forced to play together right now, but having two RH shots isn't great. The changes I've made are to separate our three small forwards and balance our lines. Gionta played well with Eller before and Plek needs Bourque's power and physicality to maximize his production.

My bet is #1 or #2

Just ask Markov he probably knows how bad Emelin's injury is. He's basically a doctor now.

that would be good because Gionta would help that line defensively.

He'd also kill that line even more offensively.

I personally would like to see;

Patch - Pleks - Ryder
Bourque - DD - Gally
Chuckie - Eller - Gionta

How exactly is he killing Pleks/Ryder offensively?

The hate towards Gionta on this board is ridiculous and embarrassing. I thought Hab fans were supposed to understand hockey. Growing up in southern Ontario I used to believe that Montreal was a place where people understood the game unlike the Leaf Nation knuckle draggers that I was surrounded by. Apparently there are far more similarities than I could have imagined......

I think habs fan understand the game better than others perhaps, but not when it comes to their own team. I mean, did you ever read the GDT? So emotional, worse than major PMSing women.

Gionta gets a lot of flack because people are sick of his perimeter shots that look more like passes than shots. Safe bet for 20-25 goals, very responsible, and battles hard. He does look to have slowed down a little bit, but he's still a good player to have.

But that's a 3M/3.5M player you just described. Not a 5M one.

Desharnais/Pacioretty are players that like to set-up in the zone. Plekanec and Ryder are similar to Gionta in the sense that like to get the shot off as quick as possible.

DD/Pacioretty with Gionta would make the whole team worse defensively. DD and Patches would be going to set up when Gionta fires a shot off the glass on the break-in.

Maybe I'm wrong and they'd light it up, but I just don't see it. That's not a knock on Gionta at all. It's just me saying their styles don't mesh.

I don't hate Gionta.

I've said lots of times, if he continues to play like he does now, I'd have no problem offering him a DD like contract (money not years) to play on our 3rd line.

Haha. Don't you miss him? This is an interesting discussion but probably belongs to other threads, such as lineup thread or particular player threads (DD, Gionta and so on).

And that Matters why? Are the habs at the cap limit this season? Will they be Next season? no.

Gio is not worth the contract, but I'd rather have gio at 5 million than no Gio at all. When his Contract isn't limiting the Canadiens, what does his cap hit matter?

Next season, assuming a compliance buyout of kabs' contract, the canadiens will have over 11 million dollars in cap space. Ya that 1.5 million of overpayment is really hurting this team...

So people hate Gionta because apparently he's overpaid by 1.5M$?

Is Gionta really hurting this team that much with his cap space?

I don't think at this point of the season, people really care about his salary. So the hate only comes because Gio is lacking creativity and precision... which is extremely stupid.

If people actually watch Gionta play, they would understand that Gionta helps the team to win much more than putting his team in trouble.

Not when you consider his intangibles...but I guess that doesn't matter.

What I find hilarious is that many of the same people who are arguing that overpaying Gionta by 1.5 to 2 mil is okay, cringe at the thought of re-signing Ryder for anything over 3.5 mil. Apparently in their minds Gionta's contract doesn't affect the salary cap but Ryder's does.
