lol, is this allowed? I would say Kobe Bryant because a single player's effect on a team is greater in basketball than in hockey unless your a goalie.Kobe Bryant has been the face of the Lakers (and shaq)since they won their first championship. When shaq left the lakers, Kobe was the man and until now he still is, despite the all star line up they have. Lidstrom on the other hand wasnt the face of the red wings until about Yzerman was near his retirement. Also, Kobe is arguably top 5 nba player all time while I wouldnt put Lidstrom in top 10 in the nhl

Kinda unfair cuz not many ppl on here may know what Kobe has done. As a HUGE Kobe fan I do know.

4th in NBA history in scoring
5 time NBA final champion
16 straight playoff appearances
19 triple doubles
2nd most points score in a game (81)
Had 61 at MSG
2x finals MVP
15x all star
4x all star game MVP
2x nba scoring champion
10x all nba first team
2x all nba 2nd team
9x all defensive 1st team
3x all defensive 2nd team
NBA all rookie 2nd team
Slam dunk champion
14x ALL NBA team
5,862 career assist
6,549 career rebounds
31,481 career points
1,820 steals
39 career game winning shots.

He did all this while remaining on the same team his whole career. Not to mention being the most clutch player to ever play the game.

Add 81 points against the raptors, highest since Wilt Chamberlain, the time btw where scoring was a lot easier

EDIT: nvm you got it there

Add the way he can take over a game and his "clutchness"

Good post but I have to nitpick. Unless you're the MSG PR Director, why does it matter that he scored 61 at MSG as opposed to some other building. I know that MSG Network has really hyped MSG to being some sort of mystical place with dragons and unicorns, but I didn't think it would spill over to HFBoards. Scoring 61 at MSG is the same as scoring 61 in every other arena. In fact worse. If I remember correctly that Knicks team sucked ass.

P.S. Only 2 time NBA scoring champion? I'm shocked.

Just added game winning shots. I don't think it includes playoffs game winners tho.

I didn't men anything special by MSG lol. Just put it in.

But only 1 other player on the opposing team has ever scored over 60 in that building. Micheal Jordan.

That's because it's hard to score 60, lol. That's kind of a useless stat. It just pretty means Kobe scored 61 points once.

Lidstrom is one of my favorite players of all-time but this isn't even close, it's clearly Kobe. Even accounting for the fact that an individual player in basketball has a much higher impact than one in hockey, both played/have played their entire careers for one franchise and Kobe has both more championships and ranks (IMO) higher on the all-time list for NBA players than Lidstrom does for NHL players (top 10 compared to top 20).

Lidström is one of my idols and I never watch basketball, but I must say Kobe.

like what other posters have said, this isn't even close.

lidstrom maybe a top 10 player all time but kobe is at least top 5, if not challenging jordan for #1(still not as great as jordan).

Kobe has not only done more for his team, but hes done more for his respective sport. But thats probably cause basketball is more popular.

Steve Yzerman says hello. Better choice than Lidstrom.

Kobe has done a lot to submarine his team's playoff chances this year.

Not really a fair question since Basketball is much more star-driven than hockey. Kobe easily.

If Kobe had been playing at the level the rest of his team has, they'd be looking at a lottery pick. The guy has a legitimate case for MVP this year (James aside) and if the Lakers can pull off a miracle and sneak into the playoffs (and they're not that far out of it) he will certainly be my pick. This might be the best season he's had since 08. Playing like a man possessed.
