Trophy Watch Thread

So, have the habs ever won both the Norris and Calder in the same season?

Gallagher, Subban, Markov, Therrien are all candidates.

My guess is Subban wins the Norris, Hubredeau wins the Calder, and MacLean wins the Jack Adams.

Whose Markov's biggest competition for the Masterson?

Could Bergevin perhaps win GM of the Year?

Annoyed that Price had those two bad games... he'd be the man for the Vezina. Those games knocked ten points off his save percentage. He's slowly but surely making his way back to those numbers but with such a short season he's not going to have enough time. He's played extremely well though.

PK should win the Norris, he deserves it.

Haven't seen enough of Huberdeau but he's all alone and producing so he'll probably win but Gallagher deserves a nomination at the very least. Wow, what a pleasant surprise he's been.

MT has been great but I think it's Paul Maclean's trophy to lose. Sens have to make the playoffs though or MT walks with the trophy.

Should be a nominee.

I mean the guy helped turn a 15th place club into a fighting for first place team.
Additions of Prust and Ryder have been HUGE.
The Subban contract deal was handed well (atleast to some.. me personally)

I don't know... he should be a nominee that's for sure.

Has the Norris trophy been awarded to a defenseman whose team did not make the playoff?

I really like Therrien's chances.

But the last 10 games will be decisive. MacLean has done an amazing job, but I doubt he wins it if the Sens end up 6th or lower.

As for the Masterton, Crosby will probably be listed.

Markov is a lock for the Bill Masterton (unless he gets injured again)
Therrien is a virtual lock for at least a Jack Adams nomination (unless Habs completely collapse in the last 10 games)
Subban is a virtual lock for at least a Norris nomination (unless he gets injured/shutout offensively in the last 10 games)
Gallagher is a bit of a long shot for the Calder (unless he catches fire in the last 10 games)

Subban will win it if he keeps up similar pace.
Gallagher should get a nomination if he keeps up the pace.
MT would get a nomination
Bergevin has no chance of winning....
Markov should win(2 Masterton in a row?)
Price would be in nomination if he didnt have the Pittsburgh, NYI and TO game.

if you have watched lundqvist, you wouldn't be saying this....

rask has been pretty amazing too, and same with schneider.

price is with a handful of goalies, from about 5-10.

Saying Lundqvist is better than Price when he had an awful start of the season is kinda hypocritical.
Schneider was severly outplayed by Lu before that 8 goals lost.
Rask has been good too, closest to Price.(Or Price is the closest to him..)

Well , its clear where subban, gallagher and therrien stand in their races, will be interesting to see how the calder will play out tho, gallaghers doing all this on a winning team

BUT, dont be surprised if price gets a vezina nod, .. he wont win , but they love goalies who lead the league in WINS, i think itd be great if he got some sort of nomination, might shut up alot of people around here

I'm guessing Markov for Masterton and not for Norris.

I think Subban will win it, Gallagher and Therrien won't, not too sure about the Masterton nor do I really care.

I think last Calder was Ken Dryden...so doubtful..as it was 41 years ago. That's almost as far back as my memory goes

With 2 goals in two games, if Galchenyuk keeps bringing his game up he might very be a top 3 contender, we'll see.

Habs players have won the Calder 6 times: Dryden 71-72, Laperriere 63-64, Rousseau 61-62, Backstrom 58-59, Geoffrion 51-52, Quilty 40-41. Of those years, Harvey 61-62 and Johnson 58-59 also won the Norris.

Doug Harvey was not a Canadien in 61-62. He had just been traded to the Rangers after his only season as captain of the Habs, when we got our 5-year Cup streak broken. It is also stated frequently that Harvey was moved, to a bottom team, as "punishment" for being active in the players movement.

So 1958-59 it is, Backstrom and Johnson.

Subban should be leading the race for Norris. PPG player right now AND a much better defensive defenceman than Karlsson, who won it last year based on his offence. But he's got a ridiculous bad rep around the league and there's another factor I won't dare mention...

Letang is about to comeback from injury though...so it could get interesting.

Price should be not be in the Vezina conversation unless he is on fire to end the year. His save % is just not high enough.

I'm pretty convinced Gallagher will not get a nomination for the Calder. Saad and Brodin are clearly ahead of him right now and play key roles on winning teams and the voters will fall for Huberdeau's point totals even though FLA puts him in every offensive situation since they have no one else. Plus you have Conacher, Schultz, Hamilton, etc.

I think the Wild GM will get GM of the year. MB could get nominated though.

Not to be a Homer simpson, but:

Gally will win the Calder if he pots another 4 goals the next ten games. And he will deserve it.

Marky should walk away with Masterton. Travesty if not. That'll give us two in a row. Says a lot about Habs.

If Subby stays at PPG the next ten games, it would be a ****ing joke if he does not win the Norris. I cannot believe this kid. I also think he should be in the Hart race, but that won't happen. Always goes to forwards, unless your name is ORR.

Terry will not win the Adams. Too much competition this year, and it'll get embarrassing at the awards if he takes it, given we might grab Calder, Norris and Masterton.

Quoted for Truth.

Great question.HIGHLY doubtful, as a Norris D makes a team so much better.

LG you are a lot like me. You let stuff drive you crazy some times. I had not even thought of that, and now it's annoying me too.

Tone down that IQ, take drugs or something, it will help.

Masterton is an under rated award. Ask NHL players what they think of it. It means a hell of a lot.

Price would have a save percentage right there with Lundqvist and a much better record. It would be his to lose right now.

Yeah, it's not like being a rookie GM and taking a 15 spot team to competing to the 1st position in its conference was impressive or anything like that anyway...
