What Will Happen With Luongo?

As entertaining as the goalie situation in Vancouver is, it has to come to an end some time...doesn't it?

Fully expect Luongo to be traded for a legit return. May not get a ''Jason Pominville'' return, but in the end, it will be better than having him sit.

Probably gets traded for a bag of pucks + some salary retained or bought out.

When a player comes out and says "My contract sucks," you aren't going to get much for him.

"Good Return", by which I mean better than Scrivens + picks. I think either a 1st or a solid prospect will be involved.

Very wishful thinking. I am surprised that after a full offseason, and now what will be a full season of unsuccessfully trying to trade Roberto Luongo you guys still think you'll get any value for him.

If you couldn't get that at the trade deadline, why do you think you'll do better in the off season when the cap comes down and the situation is desperate?

I said they'll buy him out. I think Gillis' ego is too big to take a 7th for him...and no one's dumb enough to make a "hockey trade" for a player with a contract like that.

I expect him to get a similar offer to what they asking at the deadline (picks and Scrivens).... so I voted scraps.

He should get even less than what was offered at the DL. A 2nd rounder at best.

The bigger question is who's looking for a #1 AND sees Luongo + his cap situation as the best option?

It seems like too many struggling team's best asset is their netminders. Markstrom, Varlamov, Bobrovsky, Bishop/Lindback, Rinne...

How does him being honest and saying his contract sucks affect his skill set, ignorant post . He's still a great goalie despite this season, and a very consistent one too.

don't see how Gillis thinks that Lu will be more valuable come off-season

List of potential UFA goalies this upcoming off-season that have starter potential

Howard
Backstrom
Smith
Nabokov
Bryz (buyout)
Emery (playing lights out so far behind a solid chicago team)

and Lu has to compete with that? his value is gonna be lowww

in the off-season i fully expect bryz to get bought out and mike smith is also a UFA so far. Those 2 people could just sign in the off-season instead of having to give up any assets for LU.
I don't think Philly will buyout Bryz only to pick up an even worse contract. It would be hilarious to see though

well i said bryz can be bought out so that he creates competition for LU thus lowering lu's value even more, I didn't say philly would acquire Lu's contract

Trade him for scraps.

I dont think any team is dumb enough to give up valuable assets for a 34-year old goalie with a bad contract. It would be funny if it happened though.

Oh oops. I don't think Smith will really create competition...if teams want a #1 goalie I think it's pretty clear that Luongo or Bryz are the clear-cut choice considering Smith has only one good season (last year) or arguably 2.

I think Miller is the only one that can compete with Luongo this off-season assuming the Sabres try trading him.

...except Luongo is clearly a superior goaltender to every single one of those people you listed.

Howard:
Quote:
Holland said he plans to reach a deal to keep 29-year-old Howard in the Motor City.

"Hopefully between now and June 25 we'll get Jimmy Howard signed to a contract," Holland said. "Jimmy Howard is the No. 1 guy we want to build around and he now has three years of playoff experience."
Backstrom will be resigned. Minnesota traded Hackett and they can't rely on Harding with his medical issue.

Here's Mike Smith's last 4 years in save percentage:
0.900, 0.899, 0.930, 0.904. No team is going to look at Mike Smith now and think "yeah, that's a guy I can rely on to be an above-average goaltender".

Evgeni Nabokov will be 39 years old before next season starts.

Bryzgalov is better than most of the names on there, but he's also been a total disappointment for 2 years running. Last year he posted a 0.909sv% and this year the Flyers traded for Steve Mason because Bryz is at 0.896.

Ray Emery? Seriously? He's played more than 40 games once in his career. His career average save percentage is 0.908 and that includes this "monster" year, which is really just natural variation. (Hi, Brian Elliott, how are you?)

Gillis will try a few more times to trade him. If not, he gets bought out sometime during the beginning days of free agency.

Similar to what was offered at the TD.

So "scraps". prospect/picks.

Scraps if MG refuses to take back salary, but if he will budge on salary take back I can see a decent return.

He'll be bought out. Nobody wants that contract with the new CBA, and the cap dropping will put more pressure on the Canucks to move it out.

Have a funny felling the Maple Leafs end up trading a mid-level pick or two and some salary to the Canucks for him this summer. At some point Gillis has to move him, I don't see the Vancouver org buying that contract out.

You realize if any of those goalies listed changes teams(except maybe Emery), then that team would end up looking for a goalie for themselves, right?
