Leslie, this is what you wrote in July

Quote:
Calle Andersson, D – Farjestad J20 (Sweden SuperElit)
4th round, 119th overall
Height: 6'2 Weight 211 lbs

The Rangers selected a true puck-moving defenseman in the fourth round. Calle Andersson has been posting good offensive numbers his entire junior career, including during international play.

Last season, Andersson registered 36 points (12 goals, 24 assists) with Farjestad J20, as well as six points in 14 total international games for Sweden. Andersson (who was not invited to Sweden's U20 camp later this month) has one more year on his contract in Sweden and is expected to play in the SEL for the 2012-13 season. Depending upon how he does there, Andersson may be ready to play in North America the following season.

Andersson came to the Rangers' development camp last month and was very visible at times off the offensive blue line. He has good speed and a very crisp first pass. He will need some time to develop in Europe and then to get used to the NHL-size rink and play more of a positional game, but Andersson has the potential to be a more offensive addition to the Rangers blue line.
An update would be much appreciated.

I think Zuccarello dropped it just because it's long. Fast dropped the 'h' because in Swedish, his name is pronounced "Fast" and people have been pronouncing it with a "th" sound.

Fasth is how they spell it Sweden. Fast is how it's always appeared on his passport. So he's keeping it at Fast.

Sam Rosen mentioned his name the other day during a broadcast and pronounced it with the emphasis on the -TH at the end....

Thought you would all find this interesting:

A girl I'm friends with here at CU is from Minnesota. Her dad was visiting for the weekend, and he's an alumni of the U and a Gopher season ticket holder.

Naturally we got into some discussions about the team and I asked him what he thought of Skjei. First thing he said was "he needs to get the hell out of here". He likes him a lot as a player, loves how he plays, but he doesn't think Minnesota is the right place for his development. When I asked him who he thought would be a better pro between him and Mike Rielly, he said Skjei, but he kept bringing up how he needs to be playing elsewhere.

Obviously with Hegelson, Alt and Schmidt gone, Skjei has a good opportunity next season, so it will be interesting to see what type of minutes he gets.

Her father was also quite critical of Nick Bjugstad. Said he doesn't have a lick of killer instinct.

AIK missed they playoffs, Skellefteć AIK made the final. Different teams.

AIK (f. 1891) is the team that has been a stepping stone for a surprising amount of NHL goaltenders: Fasth, Gustavsson, Bäckström, Thomas, Kiprusoff.

Skellefteć AIK (f. 1921) is the team that has produced a several of Sweden's top talents the past few years: Larsson, Erixon, Rundblad, Lindberg.

Skellefteć's fans try to refer to themselves as "AIK" even though AIK proper has been around for longer, is the bigger club, better in every sport except currently in hockey. Skellefteć even modeled their emblem and colours from AIK.

It is sort of like if Columbus would start calling themselves the Blueshirts. You just can't let something like that slide.
Or is it Solna AIK and Skellefteć AIK?

BTW, have the Knicks formally changed their names from the Knickerbockers?

Sammy Noreau had a PPG for Baie-Comeau, who is now up in their series 3-0. If they advance they'll likely face Halifax in the semis. Halifax is loaded--MacKinnon, Drouin, Frk. That team scored almost 350 goals in the regular season--over 5 goals per game. It will be a big test for Noreau, who missed the last two weeks of the regular season and first round of the playoffs.

Was the injury ever disclosed? All I saw was upper body, he fought for only the 3rd time all season in that last game prior to being out.

Broken hand from that fight per Jess Rubenstein at The Prospect Park.

Would be good if they swept the series, giving him more time to rest up and avoid any chance of re-injury during the tough playoff battle. Four games plus practice time is good for him right now to get back in shape for Halifax. No need to go 6 games.

St. Croix was first star tonight in a 9-2 win. 2-1-3 +3. In 8 playoff games he is now 6-6-12 +11.

After a slow round of playoffs last year, he is coming back with a vengeance this year. I said before the playoffs began that I'm going to be putting a lot of stock into his playoff performance, and so far he's looking really good at 1.5 points per game.

Don Lucia is coaching the US WJC team in December. The schedule for the 2014 WJC team was released today.

Quote:
USA Hockey announced today the schedule for the 2013 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y. Approximately 45 U.S. players will convene at the Olympic Training Center Aug. 3-10 to audition for spots on the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete at the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2013-Jan. 5, 2014, in Malmo, Sweden.
http://www.gophersports.com/blog/201...tion-camp.html

Brady Skjei and Steven Fogarty were invited to the August camp. Skjei was invited to the December camp. Will they be holding a December camp? It doesn't say. Boo Nieves should be one of the players invited along with the other two when the list is released in June.

Does Calle Andersson have a chance for the Swedish team?

I believe Fogarty is too old, no?

Nieves and Skjei should be locks though barring injuries.

Yep Fogarty is too old. He turns 20 on April 19. Mario Lucia also turns 20 in August. These guys are too old. They spent one year in BCHL before going to Notre Dame. The Irish are returning their same team except Anders Lee. Fogarty needs a bigger role than he had in 12-13 but where will it come from with all of the key forwards returning?

Michal St Croix's Edmonton Oil Kings won last night, sweeping Drummondville to move on to the semi-finals.

He has 12 points, 6 goals, in 9 games so far in the playoffs. I hope they continue on. It looks like Calgary will be their next opponent.

MSC is better off going deep in the WHL than trying to adjust to the bottom-6 role in Hartford right before the playoffs.

Are the Rangers looking to sign Skjei and assign him to the WHL? Regina has his rights. The Rangers engineer a trade to a better team. I believe Skjei is a Newport Sports client(Don Meehan,Pat Morris,Mark Guy,etc). Newport had a 2012 draft feature on their website which included Skjei but they removed it. They listed all of their first round picks. Then Kerdiles got in trouble with the NCAA over his association with his advisor Ian Pulver. The advisor tweeted a pic of Kerdiles and his other clients holding a bottle of supplements. Newport removed any mention of NCAA players. The Rangers have 2 Newport Sports #1 pick clients. Skjei and McIlrath.

http://www.thehockeyagency.com/players-section/system

I read the Gopher blogs. This one blog had Mark Alt leaving school and turning pro when everyone assumed Alt was staying for his senior year. Alt signed with the Flyers last week.

From March 12

Quote:
I heard from someone I trust that despite a less than stellar season, Alt is seriously considering going pro. Despite a glut of quality defenseman, Alt has been in the top six all season, and I would be shocked if, as a senior next year, he wouldn't be in the top six or even top four if he came back.
http://www.thedailygopher.com/2013/3...national-title

The same blogger on Skjei. 4/10.

Quote:
Oh, and next year's team will get Adam Wilcox back in goal, still just a sophomore, still with the Iron Man helmet, still awesome. Kyle Rau, Tom Condon, Travis Boyd, and Seth Ambroz lead a promising group of forwards, and Ben Marshall, Mike Reilly and Jake Parenteau lead what will be a very young but very solid group of defenseman (should I be worried Brady Skjei will leave for juniors? Because I'm worried). The 2013-14 team won't have the star power or perhaps the top-end skill of the guys who've left like Bjugstad, Haula and Schmidt, and I highly doubt they'll finish the regular season as the #2 team in the country. But I don't think it's crazy to believe that next year's group has the potential to play better and finish better in the postseason than the current team did.
http://www.thedailygopher.com/2013/4...hout-all-their

The Rangers did buy Miller out of his commitment to North Dakota. They tried to convince Kreider to leave BC for the Q. Maybe they want Skjei out of Minnesota and into the CHL.
