Quote:
Speaking of Clowe, he gave up on his sign-and- trade demand from teams when he couldn't find anybody willing to give him an eight-year deal in the range of $51/2-6 million per season.

Is this for real?

2-6 million is quite a gap in between.

How can a guy who, at the time, had 0 goals demand such a contract?

LOL

how many days until the next lock-out?

I think McKenzie or some other credible source (more so than Garrioch) reported he was looking for 8 years and a lot of money if he re-signed somewhere

Sather is going to give it to him too.

I think it's supposed to read as 5 and 1/2 to 6 million (or 5.5 - 6.0 million).

8 years for Clowe?
If that happens then everyone and their mother will get 8 years.

If Clowe gets over 5M x 5 in terms of year or $$, the getting him will severly regret it.

The Zajac contract ruined everything for every marginal free agent now.

I think it has more to do with the fact that teams are sick of losing players to free agency so they're locking them up even if they have to overpay them. Better to have a few good players who are all overpaid than losing two of them every few years and not getting anywhere. Semin's contract was ridiculous though I admit.

Sure. But at least Zajac is just 27 and a center. And doesn't play as reckless of a game as Clowe.

All the overpayments dished out and you go with Semin

My guess? That was his way of saying, "Hey, I really want to hit the open market and free agency to see what I'm worth. For me to not do that, You're going to have to pay through the nose. Here are my demands."

And then asked for something he knew no one would give him right then.

That's still a lot for a PWF...I think he has 3-4 good years left in him. Sadly some team will give him the 8 years and regret it 2 years from now.

It's not really stupid to ask for it. Unrealistic maybe, but he knows he is getting a good contract in FA with how drab that is going to look. Someone is going to overpay him. Possibly for all 7 years. So obviously he is asking for the one advantage he can get out of a sign and trade, the 8th year. Otherwise it isn't really benefiting him to agree to it.

If he wanted 8, can I just get 1...? I'd make a couple hits and maybe fight, that's what he does, right?

LMAO

I remember reading it on twitter, I said no way that could be serious.

8 years for a 30 year, with his style of play, and with zero goals at the time.
