The reason is that HF staff has had an irrational hatred for Yakupov for a while now. The most recent Calder poll had him outside of the top 10 behind the likes of Galchenyuk and Silferberg despite being top 5 in rookie scoring. If you want to go by current production, Yakupov 3 spots behind Galchenyuk is absurd. If you want to go by potential, it would help Yakupov's case even more.

Hey as a habs fan I can relate... We waited like 9 years before we finally saw Emelin cross over. It was to a point were all habs fans almost crossed him on their hopeful like they did with Perezhogin.

You don't even have Dillon in the top 50? That alone makes this list garbage.

Saads PP TOI is almost 1/2 less than Huberdeaus and 1/3 less than Conachers. Also Huberdeau and Conacher dont play in virtually any SH situations.

he still gets to play on a line with one of the best players in the NHL. No amount of extra PP time for Huberdeau or Conacher make up for that.

Not taking away from the great year Saad has had, but he is easily in the best situation of any rookie that is in the calder discussion

Of course when you're playing with 2 of the top players in the NHL. One thing that isnt a stat is how many penalties Saad draws or opportunities created because of his motor and strength. Kid is a beast out there and dangerous with almost every possession.

Not denying that, but there are a lot of fanbases that can claim similar things about their promising rookie.

Huberdeau has been a one man team for most of the season. He could easily have a half-dozen more assists if his teamates could finish some of his passes. He has also been deadly on the forecheck and has created numerous scoring chances off of turnovers he has created.

He is also lethal in the SO which despite its low appeal to many fans, is an important part of the game.

Im thinking and hoping zibanejad continues his real strong play in the last amount of games here. Seems as though almost every game he gets a point atleast. He has done great this season with the team losing Karlsson and Spezza. I wonder if he could get into some Calder finalist talks if he finishes real strong. Hes been zooming up the rookie scoring list past month or so(32 GP. 6g. 13a. 19pts. and a pretty impressive +10)
