I admire him for taking on the challenge and had he knocked him on his ass, it'd be a different story. Unfortunately it's not and Emelin made the wrong play -- in terms of what the coach requested.

Hope he recovers well. Can't wait to see him back next year.
Hindsight... I am sure if Emelin knew the outcome before he attempted the hit, he would of never done it. But catching Lucic with his head down... You don't go for it?

Are we 100% sure it's a complete tear, and not merely a partial?

True but that's what Emelin does, he hits. Can't blame him for wanting to take out Lucic with all the emotion and high stakes in this game.

The one thing I am happy about, if that's even the right word, is that it was a legal hit and he wasn't targeted by a Bruins player. i don't know why, but it makes a bit of a difference for me that it was a legit hockey play.

We lost our only big imposing presence on the Blueline. Hooray. Would have recalled Tinordi instead of Beaulieu.

If it was a partial, I am sure they would of used the word sprain. I think it's safe to say he won't be back before the playoff, and even then, he won't be back. His face told us the story after the hit.

If Diaz can come back quick'ish tat would be good. Like at least play the last five games of the year kind of quick.

SOB Lucic! Dirty MoFo lifting his knee to protect himself!
That wasn;t what hurt Emelin but the way his leg got caught in the ice.
If Lucic doesnt lift his leg like that Emelin never get spun around!

Yes. Not confirmed by source(s), but you need surgery to repair torn ligaments 100% of the time. Maybe an exception can be made for partial tears but even then not getting surgery isn't optimal. See Gorges playing with a torn ACL for a year.

Maybe they will for the playoffs. My guess is this is just a continuation of Beaulieu's 5-6 game "trial" like Tinordi got, which was interrupted once Drewiske arrived. By playoff time Diaz will be back so neither Beaulieu or Tinordi will play unless there are injuries.

I would prefer if they gave Weber a few games instaed of playing Beaulieu.

I love the hate on Kaberle, the guy has done nothing but remain professional. If he's on my payroll, I'd expect him to play if needed, we are reaching the end of the season where more players could be injured.

Emelin will be missed a lot more than most think IMO. Only real punishing presence on D and he's held his own against tough competition. Improved by leaps and bounds from last season - partly due to playing with Markov but he no doubt made progress himself (pretty impressive advanced stats). He's shown some flashes of offense that he had in the KHL too which is promising. I hope he can overcome this obstacle and continue his development.

I have him as a mainstay as the team's 3rd pairing LD long term, at least next 2-3 years. With Beaulieu/Tinordi developing well the D looks really impressive outside of a real top 4 RD.

1st Pairing LD - A.Markov*
1st Pairing RD - P.Subban

2nd Pairing LD - J.Gorges
2nd Pairing RD - ?

3rd Pairing LD - A.Emelin^
3rd Pairing RD - R.Diaz"

A mean big top 4 right handed D would make this top 6 pretty awesome all around. A young healthy Komisarek - type.

*Assumption Markov can stay relatively healthy and age similar to Gonchar. I mean he's already lost a few steps in terms of skating...can't really get much worse. He's not as good as he was before be he's shown that he can still log effective minutes with weak skating

^Assumption Emelin can make full recovery and at least return to how he was playing this season

"Assumption Diaz can make full recovery and at least return to how he was playing this season

And if he is the next to get injured, the Habs are stuck with him for another year. Management has to make the decision based on more than just hockey. The reality of the business.

Before the Bruins game, in which he looked like he wanted to hit everything that was moving, nothing Emelin did in the past month was "imposing".

This sucks. I can deal with an injury, **** happens. I just don't want him skating like he has cinder blocks for feet like Markov when he returns. Or for that matter, be reluctant to hit from now on.

You kidding?

I can bet you, that you're gonna miss him real quickly by seeing that soft defence we have.

Once again, most nights in the last few months, Emelin ended his nights with 0 - 2 hits. No question he's a d-man who was taking 20 minutes per game, and will be missed. But to think his injury is huge considering how he was playing in the last month or so? It's a blow, but a blow which can be absorbed collectively.

Once again, Emelin was not hitting anything as much as he did at the beginning of the season. He REALLY slowed down in that aspect. And he had ordinary performances quite often lately. Him AND Diaz out is tough to take, but once Diaz is back, the effects on the d-core will be minimal. Bouillon, Subban and Gorges just have to collectively make up for his loss on the defensive/physical aspect. They won't level anyone, but let's be real, neither did Emelin for the most part in the last few weeks.
