Pretty sure he goes to KHL. Couple of years in AHL vs starter in KHL with good paycheque.

Without a question, this name will look good in an Oiler jersey.

Raanta is very hockey focused and competitive guy. He will rather take challenge in NHL than guaranteed KHL paycheque.

He has won every official/semi-official/unofficial MVP/goalie award for regular season, and it is very hard to see situation where he doesn't get decent change in a NHL organization. Finnish goalies are highly rated in NHL and he is right now #1 out of Finnish goalies playing in Europe. 22-y old, free agent, two-way contract by CBA, hard to see that no offers would come.

I did a small research and noticed that Raanta has 3rd highest save% ever in FEL for a goalie who have played most of the season.

1. Tim Thomas Jokerit .946%
2. Juuso Riksman Jokerit .944%
3. Antti Raanta .943%

Raanta didn't play behind a stacked defense like Tim Thomas or Riksman. He is just 23 year old and definetly has huge potential.

Let`s see...

A. Oilers offer Raanta a 2-way contract 700.000/60.000, Raanta will most likely play in the AHL most of the season and get 80.000. If he has a bad yr, he is out of NA and his stock go down.

B. SKA offer Raanta a 1,5mill contract to play on a 1-yr deal in KHL. He is set for life if he put 1mill in apartments and stocks.

What will a 23yr old do? I`d go to KHL in a heartbeat(to a good team), cash in and hope for a good season.

Well he is in same situation as helenius, hovinen and rynnäs were and they all went to ahl, so it's not always about money.

C. Oilers offer Raanta 2-way contract 700.000/60.000. Raanta breaks in NHL and makes two-year 1-way contract for 3.0mill. During that contract he plays like Pekka Rinne and ends up in Philadelphia with 5-year, 35M contract

Above all, Raanta played behind the best team defense which was also the case with the Jokerit teams.

The Ässät fans at Jatkoaika are saying that Raanta has claimed (in person) he's not playing in Finland next season.

I'd hate too see his career ruined that way.

Hard to say, I could see it going either way. NHL teams could look at the success of Viktor Fasth (yes, he's much older) and wonder why they couldn't do the same thing with this kid...even if that does mean having him play one year in the AHL first.

That statement shows you're another 90ish kid who crosses his arms and shuts his mouth after if he has to eat something that doesn't taste like rainbows and butterflies. Men have to work towards their dreams, women's can tape to get them like Kardashian did.

Raanta has started the playoffs well with two straight wins against KalPa.

In the first game he made 26 saves and let in one goal when the puck bounced in from a KalPa-forward near the goal crease. Today Antti got the shutout while making 29 saves. Very solid goaltending and a couple of great saves in the tight games in which both Ässät scored two goals.

I have to admit his stats look ridicilous. But the team has also played so well for a good period of time so a big part goes into that too. Anyways i havent seen him alot this year but before he struck me as a goalie that can be very solid in FEL but just cant make it in the big leagues. Lets see how he does against much better shooters than what FEL has to offer, having that big frame is a huge advantage in FEL because most of the players cant shoot the puck accurately enough to beat them. KHL is what he needs for sure.

I'd say that 6'0 and 185 lbs nowadays is actually a bit smallish for a goaltender.

Raanta and Ässät advance 4-1 in FEL play-offs, Raanta 5 games, 2 shootouts, 8 goals against (five of them came in game Ässät lost 5-0 ... ). Was solid on every winning game, the game KalPa won was a early blowout. Not too shabby.

Oh lol, my mistake

I always thought he was bigger. Never really checked how tall he is. This changes my opinion on him for sure..

No, that statement shows I don`t like gambling! If i have to choose between 1,5mill / 60.000 - I will always take the 1,5mill! I`m not gambling on my familys future. If he takes the AHL-deal and has a bad season - He is done.

And btw, I could probably be your father son. Keep on dreaming about your Kardashians and 7yr/50mill contracts...

If you're around 50 years then you might be my father and even then you would've been hell of a stud and teen parent. For that gamling, first of all you have to make huge sacrifices to be professional athlete, so the mental-set ain't same with professional athletes compared to average joe's.

exc what if Selanne chose to only play few years (like his plan was) in NHL, move back to Finland and settle down there with his wife?

Raanta continued his solid play and gets the shutout today while making 32 saves. Ässät advances to the finals against Tappara.

In the 10 playoff-games Raanta has 8 wins (tied 1st), a GAA of 1.33 (1st) and a save% of 95.94 (1st).

Are their any reports of him wanting to play in the NHL, seems like he would be garnering some attention this offseason. He could sign as a UFA now correct? I think he is 23. What are his contractural obligations with his Sm-Liiga team?

He has signed a contract with IFK Helsinki for the next season, but its 100% sure that he plays in NHL or KHL.

The contract runs out this season and even if he signs a new one most contracts will have NHL clauses put in them.
