2013 Playoff Matchup Bracket Thread

First off, let me say that I mean no disrespect to the Leafs fans, but the Bruins are way better off facing Toronto than the new-look Rangers with a goalie that always gives us fits.

HUGE home-and-home game Mon/Wed between the Rangers and Leafs. The Rangers will surely pass the Sens (one is going up, the other down) and the only thing stopping a 4/5 nightmare match-up for the Bruins in round 1 Vs. the Rangers is...

...

the Leafs.

If the Leafs win both games, they are home and clear on 5th place. If they split we are sitting nervous. If they lose both games then get prepared to see a lot of Nash and Lundqvist.

Thoughts?

Leafs @ 46pts
NYR @ 42pts

both with 38 games played --tied if Rangers take both.

Elsewhere, we were all really hoping that Philly made it to face the Pens in round 1, but the Islanders are looking really good for that spot. I'm not sure if they face each other, but Philly will need 2 games Vs. the Islanders down the stretch.

edit* Philly still has a chance to sneak into 8th. HUGE game for them on Tuesday:

I think the rangers take 5th

So well need to win the division to avoid them

Ottawa will probably finish 8th

Agreed, although I see Ottawa in 7th.

I'd really like to see the Islanders make it - I think it will be good for that organization and the fans in the area. Could be good for the league, too. B/c, iirc, they're moving to Brooklyn for 2014 and making the POs should generate more interest when they open there - at least, I'd like to think so!

Rangers have 6 road games left and they aren't very good on the road. They're also going to be playing some desperate teams.

Hopefully the Bruins can take care of their own games down the stretch.

I take any team besides the Rangers in the first round.
I actually hoped they'd finish 8th but I guess this will not happen.
Now my hopes are on the Devils to upset the Pens.
Montreal against the Leafs would be swell, too.

Best way to avoid the Rangers is to win the division as their chances to end 7th or 8th are smaller than 5th or 6th.

Anyway, I don't really care where the Bruins end up or what team we'll play. As long as Bergy is back, we'll take down anyone.

Not worried about matchups, although I would prefer Sens or Leafs over the Rags obviously, no disrespect. Playoffs are enough of a crapshoot in a normal season, nevermind this shortened sprint. I believe Rags take the 5th seed IMO, and the Leafs should hold onto 6.

The devils upset plenty of teams last year

I think that the East will shake out something close to this:
  1. Penguins - 70pts
  2. Bruins - 67pts
  3. Capitals - 52pts
  4. Canadiens - 66pts
  5. Rangers - 57pts
  6. Maple Leafs - 56pts
  7. Senators - 54pts
  8. Islanders - 52pts
    --------------------
  9. Jets - 47pts
  10. Flyers - 47pts
  11. Devils - 46pts
  12. Sabres - 45pts
  13. Hurricanes - 40pts
  14. Lightning - 40pts
  15. Panthers - 37pts
1st round:
Penguins vs Islanders
Bruins vs Senators
Capitals vs Maple Leafs
Canadiens vs Rangers

Although, I think that the #2 and #4 seeds could easily swap and the #5 through #8 seeds could end up switching around a bit. Obviously none of the seeding is close to being set in stone at this point.

I suppose a good question then is... do you think the Rangers are better after making their trades now or worse off? Consider our match ups on them. But Lunquist ( forgive my spelling) does give us fits.

Spezza, Michalek, Cowen and Karlsson could all be back for the Sens for the playoffs.

Scary team to draw then --not so much now.

The Bruins have always seemed to play Ottawa pretty good, even with those guys in the lineup.

Hopefully the Sens will rush back Karlsson so it won't be an issue in the playoffs. Anyway it's not like he's ever been good against us.

My thoughts are be careful what you wish for. there are going to be NO easy matchups come play off time, so I'm not hoping for anyone in particular. Been burned way too many times playing that game.
