Pretty much 5 of the top 6 Canadian D-Men are righties. Weber, Pietrangelo, Doughty, Letang, Subban. Keith is the only lefty i see on those guys level. After that I don't even know, Phaneuf? Bouweester? for other lefties... Some guys are just going to have to play on their off side as I don't see how any of the first 5 I mentioned can get left off this team.

Some people (can't remember who) were saying that Marc Methot might get the 7th spot

I heard that too. I'm sure things will clear up next year but I can see Marc Staal getting a spot if he gets healthy. Defensively responsible lefty. But Subban should definitely be on this team.

No, Zamuner was on the team.

Rob Zamuner.

Actually, you are right though, Recchi was there. The first link I found did not have him on the roster. Was he an injury add on? Maybe for Kariya?

Come and tell me he deserves to start before Stamkos, Tavares, Toews, Thornton, Staal and Getzlaf.
In 2010, he deserved to be chosen over Stamkos and Tavares.

I think it's more Doughty-Letang-Pietro that have to outperform PK.
He is playing better than all of them at this point, so I don't see what PK would have to do more. He keeps it up, he should get in. If they step up their game to a higher level, then it's a different story.

But if things keep progressing as they have, I don't see how PK doesn't make it.

I hate the little **** but bergeron is quite possibly the best faceoff man in the game if not best then one of the best so that's not a bad pick. If Subban is not on the team i'll be cheering for Russia he has been awesome this year best Canadian Dman by a mile, It will be fun to watch him wheel and deal on the large ice

That's not exactly what McGuire said. What he said was Subban is a serious contender to be on the team and he's being talked about quite a bit by Hockey Canada.

The best part of the segment was hearing McGuire talk about Clarke, Gainey and Gauthier picking the '98 team. He hates Gauthier so much.

re: Subban in Sochi

Seriously guys... how could the 2013 Stanley Cup, Norris and Conn Smythe winning defenceman not be in Sochi in 2014?

''When is the last time we had a Habs player on this team'' you mean? Habs player and Olympic team Canada doesn't compute for me.

He must have a full season of these PPG-ish numbers, continued strong defence AND reduce the silly pinches that he occasionally does. Otherwise he wouldn't be in my 3 pairings.

Meanwhile Doughty can have a wildly inconsistant career and be a lock on the first pairing.

Bergeron is right now 2 times the player he was in 2010. Let's not forget it was his 2nd season after his big injury. He actually didnt play 70 games the year before, neither scored 40 pts.

Team Canada already had Toews who was actually better than Bergeron in the faceoff circle in 2009-2010 and to give Bergeron a spot, he left off the team Stamkos (51 goals that year).

I believe Bergeron, has of right now is absolutly deserving of serious considerations for the 4th line as a capable faceoff and PK specialist WITH offensive upside.

For a short tournament like that, you want your entire group to be a threat offensively. Or else you find yourself looking for a goal because 1 line isnt producing and the others cant...

Has for the defense. It's amazing how many righties Canada have, it's uncommon. In this case, the summer camp will be used (if they are not completely foolish) to see who, out of that group, is capable of playing on the left side. I believe they all can.

Subban, assuming he keeps playing like now until next year (no reason to believe he wont) is a shoes-in for Team Canada. He has the footspeed and the agility to play either side imo.

Not much to debate here...

PK is going and that is that.

Personally, a Habs cup slays an Olympic gold...

Why you guys aim so low. Subban will get:

1) Stanley Cup
2) Conn Smyth
3) Norris
4) Olympic Gold

You forgot Crosby and I agree there are a number of other centers that could fill a bottom 6 role better.

And then we'll have to renegotiate his contract

Since the Olympics are next year when does P.K. win the other three? This year? Next year?

Or both years?

Bottom 6 role?? Come on. For a country with such a deep talent pool, you need only 2 or 3 role players max (faceoff, pk etc.).

Make a top 9 with your best players and that's it.

Same with the D, just take the best. They can all play PK, PP anyways. Subban should be there, his mobility will be necessary on the big ice. Canada only won in 2002 (intermediate size, IIRC) and in 2010 (nhl size).

Bergeron is a great centre.
Wasn't Toews only on the ice for one goal against all tournament? I'd take him before Bergeron.
