Wow that's a long time, congrats.

If you want to talk about bad turnovers, giveaways, and positioning, we can always look at 99% of the plays Girardi makes in the defensive zone.
Yeah Girardi has struggled this year IMO.

Also, I saw a stat somewhere that basically rated defensemen on their ability to make a play to clear the defensive zone/start the transition, and Girardi was one of the worst in the league. Kind of surprising to me at first but realistically he does do a lot of just swatting the puck around or passing it to a guy who's already covered on the boards instead of making a play.

The biggest issue I and others have had with him is his propensity to look completely lost on the defensive end(at times) and his inability to hit the net with his shot.
Time will tell with DZ but at some point, he needs to reach that next plateau and stay there w/o a return to those mind numbing decisions and turnovers in the defensive end.
I dunno, I can't remember Del Zotto making any crazy bad plays in the defensive zone lately. I remember some bad, stupid plays from his first two years, but in the last two years I feel like mistakes in his own zone aren't occurring at higher rate than any other D

I think he sometimes gets beaten 1 on 1 if a guy is coming at him with speed, but generally he's solid

That pass from MDZ to Kreider clearly proved that he's not a good offensive player. Horrible vision, horrible passing, just a bad player.

Love watching our future pull this kinda stuff. Kreider, Del Zotto and the old man of the group Derek Stepan. The future looks really good.

Such a sick pass he made to Kreider tonight. I don't know too many young dmen that can have the vision and touch to make that pass.

I cant give in to any sort of Del Zotto love fest because of nights like tonight. Every few weeks, he has a game that isnt just bad, its frighteningly bad.

It wasn't all his fault they lost this game but he certainly played a large part. The defense was overall incredibly brutal.

Had a bad game. One of maybe 3 or 4 this season.

Otherwise, he has been consistently good to excellent. One of the players I'm least worried about on this roster.

His game is so bipolar...because of his great moments and generally over the year playing well, I think he's been better overall than Girardi.

I wish someone in the equipment team would re-profile his skates. I've never seen a player wipe-out untouched with such regularity.

While they're at it, can they get us better sticks? Someone's stick breaks once per shift.

MDZ has been a very dependable defenseman this season, IMO.
Tonight was really quite poor, but when the other pairs play less than their best, it's that much worse.
I liked Stralman tonight, but when it was time to make the inspirational play an pick up your squad, none of the defence did anything.

Like I and others have said, Staal is very much missed. They cannot afford not having him. It's not good.

As has every d-man on the team this year.

Hell, Girardi's been bad for more than a few weeks now. Remember McD's ghastly performance a month ago?

Tonight doesn't change the fact MDZ is awesome, though the usual crew will come out and try to say it does.

He had a bad game, it happens and it doesn't change anything. I don't think being paired with Girardi has helped, guy is just continuing to have a brutal season. Staal can't come back soon enough.

Trade him or demote him to 3rd pairing when Staal is back. I don't care if he manages to have good games, he's such a dumb player who cannot be trusted, with or without the puck. He's an unpinned grenade waiting to explode. He doesn't even know hockey fundamentals for crying out loud. His decision making making on the first goal last night would've made a junior defenseman feel embarrassed. When he is left on his own to let his dice brain make a decision, I don't like the odds.

And it's not like his supposed "offensive game" makes up for his crap decision making in all three zones. He's not a good pincher (you need hockey smarts for that) and this is what I found when I searched for "Michael Del Zotto pointman shot" on the web:

If we want to continue being a mediocre team, keep Del Zaster as a top 4 D-man. If we want to become a successful team with any reminiscence of consistency, trade him or demote him to 3rd pairing. I'm sure he has alot more value on the market than his actual hockey skills. I'm sure he can teach himself to get the brains to become a smart defenseman, but that's when Lundqvist has retired.

He can perhaps be used as a #5/#6 D-man playing sheltered minutes, but he absolutely cannot be relied to log heavy minutes (and I guess he expects more salary than that, hence the notion he perhaps should be traded). Then you get junior play mistakes from him on a consistent basis.

horrible game. he should not have been forced out there for 25m. this is how you destroy a kid's confidence. you don't put a struggling guy out there for 25 minutes in a game that you'd really benefit from winning. it'd be one thing to shift him after the 2nd goal he was at fault for, but 3 goals that he is at least partially at fault for and we shift him again AFTER tying the game?

hope it doesn't hurt him past this game, but that's a horrible coaching move. especially knowing how much del zotto's game fluctuates when he's in a slump

Shouldn't an offensive defenseman have a shot? I mean, if you're not playing good defense, and you're MDZ, I expect you to provide something offensively. His shot is horrible, missing the net by more than 6 feet is a guarantee with him. Is it to much to ask for him to stay after practice and work on this? Look at the defensemen leading in scoring. They all have a hard shot that goes towards the net.

Staal changes this whole dynamic. If he is back at or near 100% by playoffs he can be the diff.

guys its one game.. you guys are such a bipolar fan base... one second your saying hes amazing and then your saying you want to get rid of him.. and to the person who said torts should play him 25mins a night.. who the hell you going to play instead of him? stralman, eminger?? you guys are a joke... hes fine out there.. he made errors **** will happen, hes 22 and inconsistency is going to happen..

it was a tough game.. you got to love the rangers coming back in the game and not giving up..take positives.. everything always so negative after a loss.. and so much nit picking..

When Staal is back, the entire dynamic changes as someone mentioned.. but stop this bipolar ****.. half of you hated stepan now hes a god to all of you.. you guys never learn.. its disgusting..

No need to get defensive. I think MDZ has been really good for most of the season.

I just think its incredible that every month or so he has a game that is SO bad that its beyond comprehension. He was completely out to lunch on his assignments for most of the night. It was bizarre. Did his other grandma die or something?
