Watch a couple of Devils games.

His 30 goals were practically all garbage goals in 2011-12, while Zajac was injured. This year, he lost his garbage goal duty on the first PP to Zajac, and you saw his numbers plummet after his unsustainable start to the season.

He's not a top six forward. I've watched over 100 games he's played in over the last 1 1/2 years, trust me when I say he's not a top six player.

I think this is the type of guy the wings are goin after with moving into that division next year. All these descriptions of him remind me of Holmstrom and he was pretty useful on the wings.

Hope he doesnt get a ridiculous contract but he cant bang in garbage goals and is a tough guy

Being able to score 30 garbage goals is a valuable asset in the NHL. If he was performing at that level and was moved off of a powerplay that now ranks 22nd, it seems like a misallocation of resources could be occurring.

Not saying he's a brilliant player worth $5M per (he could get that though), but he clearly has the assets of a top 6 player league-wide.

I'd go as high as 3.75. Would be uncomfortable with 4m. But yeah someone with cap space next year will offer more than 3.5m.

Exactly what we need in the top 6 is more like Nathan Horton, David Clarkson is more along the lines of what we'll probably get.

Point is sign Clowe and sign Clarkson. Offer Clarkson 3.5 for 3-4 years and lock up Clowe

Clowe,Dorsett and Clarkson, just changes the whole appearance of the Rangers. Makes NYR one tough team to play against
Absolutely. He'd make the team harder to play against. 3m is the max I'd be willing to go though. Some desperate team will throw 5m+ to him.

Clarkson has the worst Hockey IQ on the Devils. He is awful defensively and one of the worst skaters on the team. Along with that he no longer plays physical nor gets into fights. That being said he has a knack for picking up garbage goals. Would take him back at 3.5 , no more

Weird, seems like devils fan saying 3.5-4.0 mill for 3-4 years. Other teams saying 5-5.5 mill for 4-5 years

I'd give him around five years, $20M from the Sabres, maybe up to a ~$4.5M cap hit. Probably wouldn't go above that. $5M seems like too much.

I suspect if he makes it to the market we'd be interested and we surely have the cap space to make him a substantial offer. Exactly the type of player we need (Clowe's fine too) and we have the money to pay, despite his down season.

The only thing that happened was people said it was unreasonable for the Devils to move him unless the return was too good to pass up.

We weren't in a position to offload him for the ****** package of futures he was being offered for.

4M for 5 years from Toronto.

I might go to 4.25 or 4.5. Don't forget we have MacA coming off the books @ 3.25, and I think Clarkson is worth the 1M upgrade.

I suspect Calgary will make a desperation offer around 5M though.

Hmmm, I would like the Leafs to offer him $4.5Mx2 or $4.0Mx4.
I think he'll get paid $5M by somebody though

I love Clarkie and would give him $10M over 3 years, but he is not worth more than that.

Someone will overpay for his services though, maybe the Devils can get a legit goal scorer outside of Kovy with the money they save on Clarkie.

agree with much of the sentiment in here. good, hard-nosed players with 18 months of inflated stats. I think he has a low-hockey IQ. Watched him a lot this year and doesn't know how to use his line mates at all. Still gritty and goes to the net though. very important qualities.

i think in his next deal he'll top out in the 18-20 goal range. i would absolutely not give him more than 3.5-4 mill.

He's worth $3 million a season. He'll get around $5 and that team will immediately regret it. Seems like a perfect Sather player. Lets not kid ourselves, Clarkson is a third line player.

I am absolutely shocked at the hate he's getting in this thread. Really surprised.

Not long ago everyone was fawning over him.

Clarkson was a god amongst devils fans earlier on this season. What the hell happened? I've watched the Devils less this season than I have in the past.
