If that happens, people should quit crying about the trade. I'm not sure it happens, but I think he will really breakout next year in Lake Erie. Seems like the type of player that his game will translate very well to the pros, or maybe it is just a hunch.

Nope, people can still "cry" about the trade if EJ is still not meeting expectations. It'll be great if Duncan hits the ground running in the pros, but I think he'll need at least a year in the minors.

At the very least, I hope EJ pans out to be a solid top-pairing guy with smart defense and at least enough puckmoving ability to get it out of the zone. If that happens AND Siemens pans out, the Avs could still "lose" the trade and still end up with a great blueline corps, and that's all anyone can really ask for.

Anyone watch Dallas play lately? Notice big #4 on their blueline, Brenden Dillon?

He's a big kid at 6'4, plays mean and physical, plays like a true leader. That's the kind of player I think Duncan can be on our blueline in a year or two. Dillon was a late bloomer and Siemens was an early bloomer, but to expect Duncan to turn out like that is pretty fair.

I noticed him, but man do I dislike him. And IMHO Duncan is faster than he is.

Disliking him is a good thing. That means he's tough to play against. He plays with a nasty edge, just like Duncan does. This is the player Avs fans should be expecting once Duncan is in the NHL at some point next year or slightly beyond.

Duncan might be faster than him at some point, but probably not right now. Dillon is actually a pretty good skater for his size and has several years on Siemens growth-wise.

Duncan will definitely be a better skater once he's fully developed and about 22 years old...but it might just take some time for that skating to truly show at the NHL level because of the adjustment period it will take.

I know, Duncan is the kind of a player which you like when he's on your team, but you apsolutely hate when he's on the other team.

From what I saw Duncan is much more passive. Dillon is really aggressive, or he has been when I have watched Dallas. And I mean from a physicality stand point on both.

Man if we could just fix that first pairing the rest of the D would just click into position smoothly. Hejda and barrie on the second pairing next year, Duncan and Elliott on the first pairing in LEM. Then towards the end of the season you give Duncan some games on the third pairing to show him what it's like in the NHL, and after another pro-offseason start him with the team and transition him into Hejda's spot on the second pairing, while Hejda drops to the third pairing to help smooth over Elliott's transition to the NHL.

Duncan is only passive when he needs to be. He knows his NHL game is going to have to be a physical one.

Yeah. I like Wilson and I think he's a good #4 or #5 guy...but he's NOT a top pairing defender, even when healthy.

Wilson's just so injury prone I don't like trusting him in our top 4. IMO he and SOB would make a great third pairing next year...until Wilson gets hurt.

i think Siemens will be a very good addition to the team when he's ready. we have a few holes that he can help fill at least one of.
