Using a shortened season with no camp versus the previous full season? I disagree.

However, if excuses is your thing, the Preds have had a ton of injuries to its offense this year. Multiple injuries to guys like Fisher, Goose, Hornqvist, and Wilson. There.

Ok...so you

A) Get rid of your top prospect

&

B) Give that prospect up for Martin ****ing Erat?

Makes sense.

Injuries and a transition to younger players have hurt our offense this year, not to mention but our go to winger, Martin Erat had a whopping 4 goals on the season.

It's just funny you guys blast us for being conservative on offense, yet last season, we finished 8th. Then you talk about your wide open offense this year that is ranked 7th. Is the difference between conservative and wide open one full ranking point?

Caps finish the year vs the southeast and alot of home games. Its likely to go up considering thier poor start.

Wilson and Kuznetsov our top winger prospects. Forsberg, as we found out, was third in the rankings of our GM in terms of the importance for the club. He said in an interview that he wouldn't pull the trigger if Nashville asked for Wilson.

No he's saying that the player has no value at the NHL level, no matter how good of a prospect it is, he's not making the team better by being in the system... worry about your own reading comprehension.

Last year <> this year. You can't reasonably compare them - as you stated, the Preds have had a much more difficult year in 2013 so far. And the Caps had a much more difficult year in 2012.

Seriously, why is this thread even still active? Does everyone really have to feel like they won? I'll spare the boards my rant on the trade, but I'm getting really tired of reading the same ill informed diatribes (not to mention revisionist opinions) from fans from all sides (including the DC ones.)

Don't think Forsberg will amount to nearly the player some are projecting him to be. His value will drop as people see that he's simply not that good, and while Washington definitely could've gotten more for him, I like Erat, and I think it wasn't that terrible of a move to get rid of him while his value was still high.

Also, people are forgetting that Latta is going to be a solid pro, too.

Yeah because the Caps are more likely to play the way they did under their old defensive coach than their new offense coach... Figure it out

Yeah because using a 48-game season, after a lockout, while the player wanted to be traded is a much better gauge.

Great call

I'm guessing you're talking about Erat. My post had nothing to do with him. Just saying the Caps offense this year is much different than last year, and will continue to be so under Oates!

I'm sure it is. Going back to the point, the Preds were 7th in offense last season under a very defensive coach in Barry Trotz. So there's a misconception that the Preds system was holding him back. I'm sure he'll be fine in Washington.

Lots of denial in this thread. Saying the Preds don't have a restrictive offensive system is like saying the Caps weren't a D-ONLY (not D-1st, D ONLY) team under Hunter last season.

There's truth in both. Hopefully from a Caps perspective this was trading a prospect when his value (as a prospect) was as high as it was ever going to be.

The almost casual dismissal of Forsberg as top prospect by team management is puzzling. Either they're being honest and he's wasn't as highly ranked internally, or McPhee and company are trying to downplay his value to keep fans happy.

I think Erat, assuming healthy and in the top 6 next year, pots 20+g and 60+pts....that's an immediate win for Washington. I'll still be rooting for Forsberg. Hopefully he lives up to billing and the trade works for both sides. Adding Latta is just the cherry on top.....he could be the wild card that pushes this trade heavily in the Caps favor when all is said and done...

Erat is good imho and will have an impact in the playoffs but giving up both forsberg and latta is a little much.

Latta goes TO Caps, not FROM Caps.

Yes, yes... good eye.

Thanks for the correction.

Not a horrible deal but only time will tell how Forsberg turns out and how Erat helps the Caps. I've always been a fan of his 2 way game.

Latta imho will be the make or break of this deal.

Ok that was never my point anyway! I thought you were claiming the Caps offense in future years would be more like last years than this years haha.

Haha well that says pretty much about your GM (in a bad way) Im afraid. No one in their right mind (and Cherry I guess) would rank Wilson ahead of Forsberg
