I think the loss is not a bad thing.

Important pre-PO lessons were learned tonight.

MB and his braintrust were definitely watching closely.

Kudos to the kids, Eller, Galchenyuk and Beaulieu.

I am reading your board since a while now and it seems that only two players are always responsible for losses: Price and/or Desharnais.

I agree that Desharnais is not having his best season, but other players around him, neither. Gionta and Paccioretty are not producing enough.

Yes, Therrien should shuffle his cards a bit and starts giving more ice time to guys like Eller, Galchenyuk, Ryder, Gallagher and soon, Bourque hopefully.

But no rerason to panic. It's only one loss. Too bad the Bruins could take the division lead soon.

Yes, let's consider the media when shuffling lines or benching players. That's how you win

That's the role he has right now. Therrien 'exploits' him too much, though

Research has shown that even if you kick and beat a dead horse, there will be movement.

Not from the horse itself, but the kinetic energy of the foot making contact.

But as long as the horse moves a bit and your foot does not get stuck in the rotting flesh (length of time a dead horse lies around varies), you are fine continuing to kick or beat it.

The small players are not playing well with the exception of the rookie #11. Gionta and DD are simply too small to log so many minutes. Bourque will help Gionta but for some reason MT trusts DD more than he trusts LE.

I posted some line ideas earlier but I think I might revise them here. The way I see it, when you have a team that's deep but not top-heavy, you're going to have to change lines more often because players will go cold/fall into a slump. Here are the facts about our forward group IMO:

1)Plek is the #1C
2)Gio, DD, and Gally all should be kept on different lines if possible.

So let's look at what works:

XXX-Plekanec-Ryder
XXX-XXX-XXX
Galchenyuk-Eller-XXX
Moen-Halpern-XXX

Prust
Pacioretty (despite a poor night)
Gally
Bourque

All are very useful and valuable at the moment

Gionta
DD

Both are struggling and need a shake up.

-I would put one of Bourque or Pacioretty on Plekanec's wing for Power/Size, preferably Pac because he's better. (Why not play both Ryder and Pac together, they're our best scoring wingers)
-I would put Gally with Galchenyuk and Eller as the second line, provides skill and energy. No need to waste Gally on a cold line
-DD canbe the 3C with Bourque and Gionta (basically a downgrade of Pac/Gally but with softer minutes). DD and Gio are both small, but with soft minutes and Bourque for space, it can work.
-Our 4th line is fine IMO. Prust is great on either the 3rd or 4th

Pac-Plek-Ryder
Galch-Eller-Gally
Bourque-DD-Gio
Prust-Halpern-Moen

PP:

Ryder-Plek-Pac
DD/Galch-Eller-Gally

Markov-Subban
Beaulieu-Boullion

That is nonsense, the goals scored were entirely on Price being out of position or missing the shot. I like Price as much as anyone but lets not delude ourselves into making excuses for him when he lets in softies. Ovechkin wristing one from the point with no one in front of the net that flutters past Price is not "perfect".

That line would be getting soft minutes and would be broken up if/when DD or Gio start heating up. We would simply play lines 1 and 2 way more, which would lessen the size issue.

Edit: You could also Move Gio to the 4th and move prust up to the 3rd if things are not working.

Desharnais needs a shake up, he's poison. Gravity always seems way stronger wherever he's playing, and he's not producing.

Shows you what happens when the Habs don't get powerplay chances. Emelin's loss is going to hurt big time.

Not perfect but...

Ovechkin's shot dipped at the very last second. Saveable but I'm not going to blame him when the defense let Ovechkin through so easily.

The 2nd goal was a high-stick that bounced down and ricochet off Markov's stick.

the 3rd goal was a shot that managed to find it's way through traffic. Nothing Price could see when his entire D core went into flamingo mode and didn't block nor get out of the way.

It's gonna hurt until Diaz comes back.

But I would had like Bergevin to get O'Byrne at trade deadline instead of Drewiske. O'Byrne is a RH shot + bigger and meaner.

DD and Pacioretty go together. You remove DD from Pac, and you should remove DD from the lineup period. Keep them together but add them a bigger sparkplug....like Prust. And make that line your 3rd. Not a shutdown line. A 3rd line that sometimes, when hot, will be a top 2 line.

Bourque-Pleks-Ryder
Galchenyuk-Eller-Gallagher
Prust-DD-MaxPac
Gionta-Halpern-Moen

Play Gionta on the PK a whole lot if you want. No PP time for him though.

And Colorado fans were pleased they got rid of him because they viewed him as terrible and overused by genius Sacco (sarcasm on the genius part)

You're usually 'sharper' than that, OSM. Where have you been during the last few months? BobbyFisher bashes Price every chance he gets, multiple times per GDT when he can (as demonstrated in spades tonight). Do you really need the to notice the sarcasm?

(note to Bobby: from now on, please use smileys to make sure we really get your point )
