Our scouting staff does their due dilligence. I think they are just working hard and making sure they have eyes on all the draft eligible players, interested or not, you need to know the strengths and weaknesses of these guys going into the future.

You could be right though. I don't think we have any interest in Domi. We may like Horvat. Zadorov may go too high. Bailey I don't know enough about to say.
I hope we look at Domi really seriously. He could turn out to be one of the best in this draft.

Power Forward/Gritty Top 6/ Big 2-Way Forward

Most of whom should be available around 25-50

Long-shot for 1st Rnd pick:

Frederik Gauthier - C - 6'04.5 - 215lb - Excellent two-way, great mobility, QMJHL rookie.

Curtis Lazar - C - 6'00 - 198lb - Goalscorer with defensive ability.

More reasonable selections:

Ryan Hartman RW 5'11 185lb - "Feisty", strong two way checking game.

Jacob De La Rose C/W 6'02 183lb - Strong on the puck, new-age power forward, solid defensively.

Valentin Zykov RW 6'01 210 - Power forward-lite, good shot, decent playmaker.

Calgary 2nd:

Andre Burakovsky LW 6'01 176lb - Dynamic goalscorer, excellent offensive tools. (Doesn't fit with the rest, I know, just really impressed with what I've seen)

Justin Bailey RW 6'03 194lb - Big winger with offensive ability, weak skater. Versatile.

William Carrier C 6'01 198lb - Strong power forward with great scoring potential, injured throughout year.

Marc-Olivier Roy C 6'01 180 - Solid defensively, well-rounded player, difficult to play against.

Honourable mention (ie. Players I like and left out because of style/position, players that could be dark horses, available around Habs' picks) :

Hudson Fasching
Ryan Kujawinski
Robert Hagg
Anthony Duclair
Jordan Subban

If there's one thing a player can improve, it's skating. Gallagher was an awful skater in 2010, and now he can hold his own against NHLers. Also, you don't draft based on what your team looks like at the moment of the draft. You draft for 5 years beyond that, so you get the guy who you'll think will be better down the road.

Giroux improved a lot on his skating, he's not a poor skater anymore, IMO. But yeah his IQ helps a whole lot.

Habs will need a guy like Mantha. Because outside of Bozon, I don't see many big bodies with the skillset he has in the prospect pool.

Uh... Rychel, Petan maybe... I don't know. General grittiness: Hartman, Zykov, DLR, etc.

Poirier could be a nice second-round pick up. Big enough, gritty and a pretty good goal scorer.

2nd - Poirier would be a good 2nd round pick..with our own. Hurley's hands aren't great. Not sure about his upside.
2nd - Bailey I could see going in the second to the Habs....Lodge is more of a 3rd round guy and Desrosiers has dropped. Mid round guy at best IMO.
3rd - Diaby won't be there in the third, nor will Fasching I don't think. Diaby will likely be gone by 45.
3rd - No way McCarron is around in the 3rd. May well go in the first.

Based on the players you have listed...realistically...

1st - Mueller
CGY- McCarron-Zykov
NSH- Poirier/Diaby/Bailey
MTL - Poirier/Diaby/Bailey
DAL - Fasching...if he drops
MTL - Lodge
McCarron that high ? Damn didn't thought he had that much potential, I mean, of course the size and physical side are there, but for the rest... a big project I suppose, a bit like Tyler Biggs ?

The Jets sure are very good with their big players.

The size argument is... weak, to be polite.

Five "bigger" forwards and one small forward. I'll trade you these five guys with size for one with heart, desire, skill, and drive ten times out of ten.

If Petan or Lehkonen has it and Timmins sees it then it would be awful hard to complain about the pick.

Hey guys had some time on my hands so I decided to name the trades in the past involving picks in the first rounder(picks to trade up in the first round)

I, like everyone, for the habs to trade up in the top 5...not sure if its possible or even worth it but here's the trade not involving players in the last 7ish years! help me out if i missed some

2006:
-Montreal trades pick #16 to San Jose pick #20 and #53

-New Jersey trade pick#25 to the St. Louis Blues for pick#30 and #77

-Detroit Red Wings trade picks #29 and #152 to the Phoenix Coyotes for picks #41 and #47

-St. Louis Blues trade the #30 and #77 to the New Jersey Devils for the #25 pick

2007:
-Blues traded #9 to San Jose for #13, #44 and 3rd rounder in 2008

-Calgary traded #18 to Blues for #24 and #70

-Wild traded #16 to Ducks for #19 and #42

2008:
-thats a three-way trade but in a trade that sent Cammalleri to Calgary, Anaheim traded the #12 for #17 and #28

-Toronto receives the 5th pick from the NY Islanders for the 7th pick, #68 and a 2009 2nd round pick.

-Nashville receives the 7th pick from the NY Islanders for the 9th pick and 40th pick

-Buffalo receives the 12th pick from the LA Kings for the 13th pick and a 2009 3rd Round Pick

-Ottawa receives the 15th pick from Nashville for the 18th and a 2009 3rd Round Pick

-Washington receives the 21st pick from New Jersey for the 23rd and 54th pick

-Minnesota receives the 23rd pick from New Jersey for the 24th pick and a 2009 3rd Round Pick

- Phoenix receives the 28th from Anaheim for the 35th and 39th pick

2009:
-Columbus trades their #16 pick, #77 to NY Islanders for #26, #37, #62, and #92

-Minnesota trades #12 to the NY Islanders for #16, #77, and #182

-Calgary trades #20 to New Jersey for #23 and #84

-Anaheim trades #21 to Columbus for #26 and #37

-Detroit trades #29 to Tampa Bay for #32 and #75

2010:
-Florida trades #15 to LA for #19 and #59

-PHX trades #22 and #113 to MTL for #27 and #57

-CHI trades #30 trades to NYI for #35 and #58

2011:
-ANA trade #25 to TOR for #30 and #39

-DET trades #24 to OTT for #35 and #48

2012:
-Buffalo receives Calgary's 2012 1st round pick (#14) for a 2012 1st round pick (#21) and a 2nd round pick (# 42)

This is pretty much a guide for what the prices are to trade up at the trade(or to trade down). Just as a reference!

I agree, but with that his stock is rising and he'll probably be gone by our 1st pick. There are some interesting 2nd round candidates though with our pick or Nashville's. There is a solid group on 4-5 top goalies taht are all solid. Ottawa got Lehner in the 2nd round a few years back...

Didn't like that trade with Phx, Tinordi would have been available at our range, without the need to loose our pick at 57th
