We've lost 5 in a row, nary a point in any of the 5.

But we're still in 6th place. Things could be a heck of a lot worse.

If the Sens fall out of a playoff spot in the last week after holding one all year I don't know how I'd take it.

'Dude, four teams are not passing us we are in the playoffs bro'....to...'Ahhhhh, this team sucks, no way they make it'....enough already.

I'll say it again, lots of hockey left and an exciting time for us supposed fans of the game. Win or lose are you not on the edge of your seat and way more involved? Much better than being a Tampa or Florida fan being pissed that they won and your pick moves away from #1, wouldn't you say?

Now we are listed as 90% to make the playoffs, anyone still backing the super math? Really don't seem like 90%, but on the bright side still a very good chance we make it.

I'll change my analysis to situations to make the playoffs rather than miss (Sens record vs. other team best record that would still put Sens in)

Sens 6-3...Devils 8-1, Jets 6-0-1
Sens 5-4... Devils 7-2, Jets 5-1-1
Sens 4-5...Devils 6-3, Jets 4-2-1
Sens 3-6...Devils 5-4, Jets 3-3-1
Sens 2-7...Devils 4-5, Jets 2-4-1

So to me it still looks like with the Sens getting 5 wins they are basically in, 4 wins could easily do it and even with 3 wins we would need a lot of help but still possible.

Devils game is going to be absolutely Massive. Could easily decide our season, hopefully they can go in with some pressure relieved, even 1 point in the Philly game would be big.

So still a really good chance they make it, don't just look at the stats sites, stop freaking out and enjoy the exciting games.

For tonight....Go Toronto, Go Boston!!

Damn it!! I traveled to Uganda (East Africa) at the beginning of April and despite my hockey-related isolation at the base of the Rwenzori mountains, I managed to find a dusty internet cafe powered by a generator so I could check on how my Sens are faring in their push for the playoffs.

****! A five-game losing streak! In my anger, I just added one smashed fly to decor of the aged computer screen. I suppose one can hope that we turn it around really quick and finish in sixth.

I'm off to drink a luke-warm beer, enjoy a plate of roasted grass-hoppers, some steamed plantain and some boiled two-dimensional chicken.

Ill check back in a week.

Quoting a post I have made in another "similar" panicking thread

Quote:
I don't see how can this team be tagged as "choking"

They have played almost ALL SEASON without the 4th, 10th and 56th leaders in NHL scoring last year. Oh and they also missed Jared Cowen who would be our 2nd best D-man IMO and a collection of other guys as well like Latendresse and Craig Anderson who would have won the Vezina if he played all season

Choking? Not even close. They should be close to the 15th spot in the East, particulary when you consider that this is a rebuilding team full of rookies where 60% of those guys don't even have 100 NHL games...

Now that you know the facts, wouldn't change the thread of your title?

So far, outside of the Toronto game, all loss were "close".

- Lost 3-2 to the Bruins (one of the best teams in the league and our nemesis) where it could have went both ways with a lot of shots and scoring chances both sides

- Lost 4-2 to the Sabres, we didn't convert enough of our chances, Miller just was a lot better than Robin Lehner in that game

- Lost 2-1 to the Panthers. We outchanced them 21-6... Clemmensen just stole that game from us

- Lost 3-2 to Tampa. Refs totally screwed us

We should have anything from 2 to 4 pts more in the standings because of that Tampa game and the earlier game against the Habs were Benoit GOOD goal was called back...

Anyway, how many rebuilding teams would make the playoffs without their 2 superstars, a star, their starting goalie and a young pillar on defense?

Looking at other teams schedules: Devils play the Rangers twice. Jets play FLA, TBL, CAR, NYI, BUF, WSH, MTL.

We need to win those games in hand.

Assuming the Bruins go on and beat New Jersey (up 4-0 right now), the Jets officially become a bigger threat than the Devils. We have two points on them and two games in hand. The two games are Friday vs the Devils and Monday vs the Bruins.

Yes, but Winnipeg plays Florida tomorrow. Then the Sens still have two games in hand. The Jets don't play again until Tuesday (vs. Tampa Bay), so the Sens will even up the GP before then (Friday vs. Devils, Monday vs. Bruins).

Alright, time to start winning our own games.

Losing to Buffalo and Florida are both games we should have won to give us a little more space. With all the above teams fighting for the playoffs and that we have had trouble with most of them are you the least bit worried?

If ever we needed scoring it is now.
You'll probably win against NJ, Philly and Carolina since they're in much more of a downward spiral. You'll likely lose to the surging Capitals and I'm not too sure about the Leafs, depends on Lupul. You'll lose to Pittsbugh and Washington and then win against Philly.

I think this is the likeliest of outcomes, so you'll go 5-4 in your last 9 I think.

That leaves you with 54 points. I'm not all too worried, you guys are fine.

If the Sens miss the playoffs, I think the only thing that would make me upset would be that they lost out on getting some picks for Alfie as a rental player. C'mon guys win it for Alfie.

Those losses are coming very close to biting us right in the arse. We stil control our destiny but we are definitely skipping backwards into the playoffs.
