Longest current playoff drought

I'm not sure if this deserves a new thread, but I could not find another appropriate one to put it in. Mods feel free to move.

Given that it looks like the Leafs are going to make the playoffs this year, it looks like we will hold the honour of being the team that has gone the longest without making the playoffs. Let's extend management!!

Here is the list of the top 6. Looks like a few will fall off this list this year.

Toronto Maple Leafs 2003–04 7 seasons
Edmonton Oilers 2005–06 6 seasons
New York Islanders 2006–07 5 seasons
Winnipeg Jets 2006–07 5 seasons
Dallas Stars 2007–08 4 seasons
Minnesota Wild 2007–08 4 seasons

that's what happens when you get crappy management and a lot of sheeplike fans who keep giving katz their money.
heck there are still people here who don't think the oilers will make the playoffs until at least 2015 and are ok with it.

good chance this year that the isles and the wild make it, too. so the oilers will look especially bad on the list.
considering how the isles have been the laughing stock of the league for many years, they've still had more success than Edmonton has had.

shocked

another negative thread--guess the good vibes from the five game winning streak is over

I do not blame the players or the management

I blame the fans of the team--I think the teams performance would increase greatly if they moved the team to Seattle of make them that second team near Toronto

Thanks Lowe, thanks Tambo, thanks for all the great coaches you hired. Hopefully it is not another year.

Some people are just now figuring out that the 5 game winning streak, the last two against a total dumpster team was the anomaly, not the last 3 or 4 years of play.

I'm glad. If we make the playoffs RK might keep his job. Fire him and hire Lindy Ruff.

And yet people around here get upset when we lose to teams worse than us.

Strange they don't say anything when we beat them...

I guess Vancouver, St Louis, and Columbus suck too, right?

Funny how it only works one way eh

We're not a playoff team right now, but we're a hell of a lot better than we were. Toronto went for the quick fix and got back in the playoffs. After years of being bad in every single facet, we didn't have that option. I'd still bet anything that we bring home the cup before they do though

Relax. We are only 3 months into a rebuild, since I believe Tambo called a "start of rebuild for realsies" in January. Mind you, I hear the Oiler braintrust is contemplating officially announcing a mulligan on the rebuilt this summer, which resets the rebuild to zero duration.

Everything is going according to plan.

that's not even close. We were trying to be competitive, but we just sucked that badly. There's a difference

The clock should be ticking but Lowe and his merry band of fools will continue on with the status quo while occasionally scratching their heads wondering "Why isn't the team getting better?

Absolute disgrace doesn't even begin to describe this.

Anyone who buys the rebuild bs shares the blame for the fiasco.

Im not really dissapointed with the team or management recently as we are starting to show signs of having an averge team not a celler dwelle and more improvement, I am dissapointed in the management that saw our run in 06 a us having a contending team even after losing pronger and wasted time chasing players like heatley and hossa rather than addressing issues and acquiring peices that could help andthat were more realistic, and the scouts for the awful drafting throught the mid 2000s pretty much till we drafted hall.

As posted in another thread:

2011: 62 points
2012: 74 points
2013: on pace for 82 points in a full season.

Calm down, if you truly thought they should've made it in this year you may be a little delusional, they are however progressing upwards in points at a respectable rate.

That's pretty good, I really think the Oilers will make the playoffs next year. just upgrade the defense a little bit and get a good back up that you can rely on sometimes.

But It's ******* depressing, no playoff hockey since 2006.

********. Disgrace for competing for the playoffs? Yeah JTS is right. Fans take a great chunk of the blame.

if this were next year we would have a 17.7% chance of making the playoffs versus the 8.7% with the current league alignment according to sportsclubstats.com

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/W.../Edmonton.html

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/2012-.../Edmonton.html

SO we could experience a potential rise in the standings next year just due to realignment - hopefully there is more to look forward to than this.

I give the Oilers full credit for beating those type of teams. I'm very happy we beat them. As I said the 5 game winning streak was the anomaly not the way we are playing now.

should the Isles make the playoff this year, it means they've made the playoff TWICE since since the Oilers last made it in

that's sad

don't worry, next year we get to compete with LA, Anaheim, Vancouver, and SJ to sneak into the playoffs
