I would be surprised if many fans complain considering what expectations have been in recent times. Even if we were it get beaten badly in the first round, just making it would be hopefully (dare I say likely) the first light in what is hopefully a very bright future!

Make it and they would be playing with house money. Then who knows what could happen?

It comes down to this...beat the teams chasing us (NYR and Winn) and we are in. Lose those games and we are in trouble.

Exactly! The euphoria of just making the playoffs will be enough for most fans, myself included. But NEXT YEAR there will be expectations of improvement. It's then that the complaints will come.

Islanders 8 remaining games

Thu, Apr 11 @ Boston 7:00 PM
Sat, Apr 13 vs NY Rangers 7:00 PM
Tue, Apr 16 vs Florida 7:00 PM
Thu, Apr 18 @ Toronto 7:00 PM
Sat, Apr 20 @ Winnipeg 3:00 PM
Tue, Apr 23 @ Carolina 7:00 PM
Thu, Apr 25 @ Philadelphia 7:00 PM
Fri, Apr 26 @ Buffalo 7:00 PM

If we go by the 53 points we need 9 (4-3-1)

If we Beat Carolina,Buffalo,Winnipeg, and Florida that's 4
Leaving us with 1 point to get from Toronto,Rangers,Bruins, and Philly

May I dare say we may have a shot at 7th..Hopefully we go 5-2-1 or 5-1-2

Ottawa 9 GR
Thu, Apr 11 @ Philadelphia 7:00 PM
Fri, Apr 12 @ New Jersey 7:00 PM
Mon, Apr 15 @ Boston 7:00 PM
Tue, Apr 16 vs Carolina 7:30 PM
Thu, Apr 18 vs Washington 7:30 PM
Sat, Apr 20 vs Toronto 7:00 PM
Mon, Apr 22 vs Pittsburgh 7:30 PM
Thu, Apr 25 @ Washington 7:00 PM
Sat, Apr 27 vs Philadelphia 7:00 PM

The best thing about Ottawa's remaining games is that they can lose to everyone and not hurt us 1 bit. If you want to say the Devils game that's fine, but someone has to win anyway.

If the Rangers lose to the Leafs tonight and then we beat Boston tomorrow we could possibly bury the Rangers on Saturday night. They would be 6pts behind us at that point.

Man, would I love nothing more to end them on our home ice!

Then the game after that will be the most important, then the game after that, etc etc etc

In all honesty if I had to pick one game as it stands today that looks like it might effect our playoff chances the most it would be the Winnipeg game

I actually think 5-2-1 is quite possible. That's how favorable our schedule is. And that would put us at 55 points...which quite possibly could be the 6th seed (Caps/Jets).

However, we play Philly and Buffalo on back to back nights at the end. If we manage to clinch a spot before that...I would guess guys like Nabby, JT, Lubo, Streit, etc might get either one or both nights off. I guess we'd have to figure out what's more important, giving these guys some time off to prepare for the first round or play everyone up to the end in the hopes that they can move up from 7th to 6th or something. Obviously, it's getting a bit ahead of ourselves, but it's possible it could play out that way. I already assume Poulin would get one of those final two games.

We're tied for 6th place overall points wise with 8 left to play. There's no reason our goal can't be to maintain that position. 55 points may very well get us that 6th seed.

Agreed. I'd feel a whole lot safer if the Isles stay in the 6th spot giving them at least a bit of a cushion. Those 7th and 8th spots... too much can happen down the stretch.

He may be a veteran but he's also 37 years old. In my opinion he's no longer a guy you can throw in for 15-20 games in a row. He's started 9 of the last 11 and 19 of the last 21. these final games are important. I'm speaking from a strictly strategical situation- you can't afford to take risks with teams you know you can win against.

but heck my specialty is numbers. i can't speak from experience.

Isles Will take the 6th Spot. Play the Caps; Dispatch them in 6. Play the pens; knock them off in 7 and then play the habs in the conference final.

Boston will be playing the second night in a row, and the last of three games in four nights, which makes the game more winnable than it would have been.

And that's just numbers, too.

That's great the Isles are playing a hopefully tired Boston team. We match up horribly against them and we need every advantage we can get. I'm actually going to the game so I hope they can pull of a W here. I hope the boys aren't already thinking about the Rangers on Saturday, that's probably the biggest game of the year.

Lot less pressure going into the Ranger game if they steal 2 points in Boston.

The Coliseum is Rocking ! Was watching on tv last night, and when Grabner scored, sounded like the roof was gonna come off. Let's win the rest of our home games ! Including the game of the year against the Rangers Saturday night !

You're gonna stress yourself out Bunk. I'm just going to relax and watch Survivor tonight. I'm going to the game against the B's so I need to rest up for that.

NOt only will it be the 3rd game in 4 nights, I believe it will be the 4th in 6 nights. which makes it that much worse for Bos. We are near the end of a tight packed sched and the players must be tired, throw in a 4 in 6 and 3 in 4, clearly this becomes a winnable game for us. The key I believe is not looking ahead to Saturday against the Rags. Anyone know how MacKinnon and Seth Jones are doing....I haven't checked and don't need to.....WE WANT PLAYOFFS!!!!!

Fans Impact

I'm just curious what all of you think the impact of the fan reaction to our team playing meaningful games in April is for the team. For most, if not all of these guys, these past few games at home have likely been the first time they've ever been cheered by a packed house who was really behind them.

I drove up from Delaware to catch the TB last Saturday and though the crowd wasn't as lively as back in the '07 playoffs, it was certainly louder than I had heard it in years, which made me quite happy. I heard that the game against Philly was even louder and more intense, so what impact do you think, if any, it has had on our team and the effort they have been showing night in and night out?

Deja vu? If you see the Caps take Hunter out of mothballs and prop him up on skates, just make sure JT keeps his eyes open after he scores the series clincher.. let's hope if the first two series go as planned there is a different result in the finals.

Sadly, most of the players on the team have never played in front of high energy, packed crowds at home games. I was there last night and it wasnt sold out but was still very loud. I think the players feed off of it and it makes them work even harder. Kind of like when your personal trainer shouts PUSH IT at you during a workout and it makes you work even harder

I've been working nights lately so I actually have no clue what's going on until I get out to my car around 9:45... Not knowing what's been going on has been killing me although I've got my boss checking the score every once in a while lol
