Valdes had a great spring and the Phillies always keep vets over young guys. You could make an argument for Stutes or Diekman as they haven't been that good, but DeFratus has been great. He should be here over Durbin.

I don't mind living in the past with guys like Utley and Rollins who are hitting like their younger counterparts and provide valuable experience and leadership. I don't even mind letting Halladay work it out, it's not like there's anything in the minors. But Durbin has nothing, and he's blocking a potentially very good reliever. They have got to start taking chances on these younger guys.

Mayberry, Durbin to name two.
except Mayberry is a good guy to have on the team for his versatility. he's not a very good hitter (though he's doing fine just now) but he's above average defensively, has an above average arm and speed so he can pinch run/steal the occasional bag. he can also play all three outfield positions, 1st base and was taking ground balls at 3rd last year too. plus he's the only right handed outfielder on the team. Durbin on the other hand just straight up sucks and doesn't deserve a roster spot.

This team has given up the most runs in the MLB so far. 51 runs against in just 8 games. Although those 13 runs scored by KC in one game really screwed it up.

Hopefully over the next 150+ games they can get it together.

The bats have been pretty alive the last 5 games (save the first game against the Mets)

I'm digging it. Hopefully they keep it up

Someone sounds extremely annoyed. Wouldn't watching the game with the volume muted be a better option?

Lol, that's like every game. They are so bad. You could try to synch up the radio.

Edit: Also, every time Kratz kills a rally I hate adderall a little more. I miss you, chooch

This umpire is an idiot. Seriously, just one guy who can accurately call balls and strikes. Is that too much to ask? I think I prefer NHL refereeing.

Idk if anyone used to listen to opie and anthony before they moved to satellite, but they had this bit once where jay mohr and anthony were doing a whole back and forth as harry caray and bob Murphy and how they used to talk about anything and everything except what was relative to the game.

That's what wheels reminds me of...

The whole but is on youtube. I'd post it but idk that it'd be appropriate considering some of the content, but its ****ing hilarious. I had to pull my car over at several times when it originally aired years ago.

Exactly. Mayberry's a very good 4th OF to have because he doesn't really hurt you anywhere in that role and he would make a pretty nice righthanded half of a platoon. He's honestly a better player than Delmon Young, and yet he's going to get benched when Young comes back.

Wheels does need to learn how to take a breath every now and then. I watch them on mute, but I am huge fan of their radio crew. The Phillies would be wise to eventually make those two the tv group.

Going to the Reading Fightin' Phils home opener tonight.

Who's down there that's worth keeping an eye on?

The starting pitcher, Seth Rosin, isn't a top prospect but he's worth watching. He's a big guy who they got for Blanton last year.

Valle, Rupp, Collier, Hewitt and Duran are all prospects of some sort but there aren't really any potential stars in the lineup this year. Hewitt should be interesting to watch as he's a former 1st rounder who's off to a good start, but he's teased before. Kyle Simon is a reliever who I could see making it to Philly next year some time.

Cameron Rupp, Zach Collier, Sebastian Valle. From the pen there's one guy I really like, Hector Neris. Kyle Simon and Tyler Knigge are 2 more in the pen to keep an eye on. Biddle is the big name down there but I also really like Austin Wright, if you get to see any other starters.

Rupp has gotten off to a good start, same for Anthony Hewitt (phils 1st round pick, '08, 24th overall) but the opposite is happening for Zach Collier (phils 1st round pick, '08, 34th overall) after a good showing at the AFL in the off-season.

Didn't take the Phils nearly as long to get to .500 as it took the Flyers. And this is with Hamels and Halladay with 0-2 records and 10+ ERAs.
