That's a really good question. In a shortened NHL season and a carousel in Bridgeport and Nilssons Health. This season was an interesting on for Goaltenders in the Islanders Organization.

Here are the two biggest questions, What do the Islanders do with Rick DiPietro? I thought his being waived and sent to Bridgeport was setting him up to go bust down in the AHL and possibly finish his career. It hasn't happened, actually of late Rick has looked good. SO do they still do the financially responsible thing and amnesty his contract? If so, that leaves him in Wade Redden territory where another team can pick him up on the cheap and Rick might end up salvaging his career somewhere else while the Islanders pay 2+MM for eternity (against the cap). I don't think Islander fans care if that happens, I don't even think Wang cares if that happens, since I think he is going to sell and even if he doesn't, He is never going to ever approach reaching the cap ceiling, he actually welcomes the 2MM boost I'm sure. But would Snow want this? I think everyone knows he has an ego (what athlete or former athlete doesn't) does he do what's best for the organization and let Rick go? I know some will say 'Wait a minute Rick is playing much better, why can't he just salvage his career here?'. Personally I think that ship has sailed. The Islanders Record before they waived Dipietro was 7-9-1. Since They waived DiPietro the Islanders are 12-7-3. There are several other variables of course, but I don't think this is a coincidence. It goes beyond the poor play, it's the whole package that comes with him.

Tell me what they do with DiPietro and I can give you a much better indication of what goalies will be where.

Also, does Nabokov re-sign? I hope so he deserves a 1 or 2 year extension and if he wants to stay can provide a bridge for the #1 goaltending position until somebody kicks down the door (Poulin, Nilsson, Koskinen). Whats most important is that each of those guys see has much pucks as possible for the next two seasons (especially Nilsson, he needs to make up for this seasons health-shortened season). Poulin can actually go back to Bridgeport for 1 more season without having to clear waivers, if that is necessary.

Perhaps you will see another year of Poulin and Nilsson in Bridgeport and Koskinen in Europe while Nabby does his thing as the starter and DiPietro (WTF knows).

At this point, after this season, I think a redo is more appropriate than a blow-up and draft/sign tons of new goalies.

C'mon Griffin, no points/even with your team scoring nine goals. The rest of the defense with points or a +1 except him.

I have a feeling DP competes with Poulin for he backup spot next year based on his play on Bridgeport.

I think if he can't hack it he is bought out next offseason.

I hope not. I don't think its a coincidence that the Isles got hot shortly after DP was sent down.

We move closer to that Edmonton vs. Portland Final.

Kichtons season (and Juniors career) is over, I'm interested to see if the Islanders can get him signed now. Hope so.

i hope so too. he fills a void, IMO. we don't have any 'highly' skilled/pp defencemen in the ranks. alot of our young defencemen have a degree of offensive ability, but none that i feel could be the next Karlsson

If donovan does indeed stay on the island next season we will need kichton to keep landry out of the soumdtigers lineup. Bad enough to have ness. We need capable pmd down there!

I don't think TT would be automatically heading to LI.

He just needs to play for some nhl team in 2013-2014, if he still hopes for that Olympic selection. Doesn't have to be the isles.

If the isles trade his rights this summer, the Bruins get the NYI 2nd, the isles could get the third team's 2nd and TT plays next season.

Just from the vibe we've gotten I don't think signing Kichton is a sure thing. IMO there's a chance they let him walk away. Maybe I'm wrong - I hope his game would translate because a talented RH PP pointman is a good thing.

Until I see him in another NHL team's prospect list, in my mind, he will be signed by us.

InformTheMasses,

Exactly how good is Matt Donovan going to be? I only saw him a couple of times and I liked what I saw. I would love for him to replace Streit next year.

2011-2012- (72 games) 10 goals, 35 assists, and a +11.
2012-2013- (70 games) 13 goals, 28 assists, and a +16.

Looking at his stats and they're pretty amazing for a defenseman.

I would say amazing is a bit of a stretch. If you want to see amazing. Look at Justin Schultz's numbers in the AHL. Obviously Donovan is no Schultz, but his numbers are amazing for a defenseman.

I've been watching Donovan since his college days. He is a defenseman who will ALWAYS jump into the play, almost like a 4th forward. Very good offensive instincts, good hands for a defenseman, and a smart defender, not the biggest, but he has filled out a little since his college days. I really like his plus/minus the last 2 years at Bridgeport. I think he takes over as a pp point man once Streit is gone (if we sign Streit, I still think Donovan comes up next season). I really like Donovan's upside. he's produced offensively every league he's been in.

Donovan has been impressive in Bridgeport. He gets labelled as an offensive defenceman but has grown and is more than capable in the defensive zone. I have really enjoyed watching Donovan grow up and develop through 2 years of college and 2 ahl seasons ( all that after a year in ushl). He has come a long way and is much more a complete defence man now.

I used to compare him to Matt Carle now he remained finds me a bit more of Paul Martin. He's probably a cross between the two. And I like Donovan's shot (power/accuracy/release) more than the other two. I think it will allow him to score a few more goals than either martin or Carle.

He's A good defence man, he is still young at 23 next year so he will make his share of mistakes. ButiI think the Islanders have a good one in Donovan. If his game continues to grow he can be a dependable defence man on a second pairing, play in all situations and qb a successfull power play.

Staple has said unless he has a change of heart he is going back to the draft. The islanders have made their offer. Staple has been dead on with the prospects recently, so i would say more likely then not he is gone. Hopefully, he or the islanders will change their minds.

Edmonton will play winner of Red Deer-Calgary series. Calgary leads their current series 3-1, game five is tonight.

Hope they can still get Kichton, still has time to get in a few games with Bridgeport before their season ends.

Barrie will likely end up playing Belleville, who leads their series 3-0 against Sudbury with game four tonight.

Donovan will be at worst a servicable NHL Dman and best case scenario is AMacish with a little more O......He still makes atleast one major blunder a game, that is obscenely glaring.

I just don't see how Garth can let a guy with this much potential just walk away. I'd like to believe Garth is still working to get a deal done.

I think you are underrating his upside. I think he has way more upside offensively than AMac. Donovan isn't like AMac and Hamonic, those guys produced offensively in Junior, and then focused completely on the defensive game, with some offense showing up here and there. Donovan has produced offensively everywhere he's played. He's not going to change his style like AMac and Hamonic. Donovan's instincts are to support the offense any chance he gets. And I hope he never changes. I see him producing the same numbers in the NHL that he did in the AHL, maybe not his first NHL season, but I think he will have the same type of seasons from season 2 on.

I see him being a 10 goal 30 assist 40 point man, with his ceiling being 50+ points in the NHL.
