I agree that it is foolish to rush back after this type of injury. But regardless, I think he is still further away from returning than people are assuming. My reason for saying this is that his ankle would have been immobilized for a while, and it takes time to build up strength in all of the supporting muscles and tendons. Doing skating drills helps that along, but it still will take a while.

Only thing is that games are way more intense than even the hardest of practices. If he pushes himself to the limit in a game, that's when he can know how he really feels. Problem is he can't know that unless he plays a game.

@RenLavoieRDS: Il faut s'attendre à voir Erik Karlsson dans l'uniforme des Sénateurs d'ici 3 à 4 semaines si tout va bien. #RDS

after that bieksa quote saying he regretted rushing back too soon after his achilles injury, I hope Karlsson is 100% when he comes back.

hate to see him rush back for playoffs at the cost of a long career

If we make the playoffs he might be back for it. That's good news.

We gotta make the playoffs now just for Karlsson.

Having the best player in the game back would tip the series in our favour. Or at least balance it out.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't rush back Karlsson. I'm all for getting him back, but not at the risk of him not recovering fully in some foolish attempt at winning a playoff series.

I trust Dr. Chow and Karlsson's take on the injury. If three weeks comes around and Karlsson and Dr. Chow say he's good to go, insert him in the lineup. If he feels too much discomfort, don't come back.

I know Karlsson is obviously feisty to get back into the thick of things, but I'm sure the professionals know more than us about how he's feeling. Karlsson would be the one risking millions of dollars and a potential HHOF career. I trust he'll make the best decision.

They aren't going to play him if his achilles is hanging by a thread, but he will for sure play if he's at 75% or so.

From what I understand, no damage was done to Bieksa's achilles. It was just his calf being cut without any significant ligament damage.

Separate injury. He's had a slashed calf and achilles tendon at different times in his career.

this tells me he had swelling, pain, or inflammation and he's had to back off. guys, i think we have to go with the idea that he's not coming back. i dont want him pushing too hard on a potentially career-limiting injury. he's far, far too important to us to allow that to happen for one stoppage-shortened year when our no.1 C is likely out too.

It doesn't mean that at all. It's likely just a day of rest or a physio day. He probably shouldn't or can't be skating on it every day. No need to jump to negative conclusions.

He's not skating this week, not just today.

Since we are likely to miss out of the playoffs now I guess they are taking the safe route

Also very likely that he's had a setback

Normally I'd agree but the injury situation has been nothing short of frustrating this year.

Anderson's "day to day" became weeks.
Michalek was also day to day, suddenly needing surgery and now he is day to day again.
Spezza was 2-3 months to whatever his status is now.
Karlsson and Cowen were supposedly done for the year and now it looks like they might be back for the playoffs.
