NHL.com named Burrows as second star of the night.

1. Jarome Iginla
2. Alex Burrows
3. Cam Ward

Our 4th scorer (Kesler) has identical numbers to Getzlaf.

Amazing.

I can agree with that second part, but I don't think he's been head and shoulders better, at least not enough to offset the fact that Kesler has far more difficult assignments and duties 5-on-5 and seems to do so much more with them. Burrows is great too, but let's face it, this year his only duties 5-on-5 has been to retrieve the puck when he can and help keep it in the offensive zone for as long as he can while helping the Sedins work their magic. I don't feel like it's the right role a player to be giving the Selke to (in that he isn't required to do enough in his own end to really earn the award-- and if the other side of the argument is that keeping the puck in the offensive zone is a form of defense, I would argue that the Sedins have been a bigger reason for that than Burrows).

On any other year where Burrows is given similar responsibilities to Kesler I could easily see him competing with the guy, but this year I don't see it as a fair match (although the stats would favor Burrows).

congrats to Alex for a career high 29th goal

many (most) figured your 28 goals would never be matched, and yet accomplished the feat with 20 games remaining.

Have to give Burrows credit for blocking that Stoll shot from the point on the PK... hopefully he's good to go for next game. Anyone have an update on his status?

Yeah, it's been a while since this thread got some love. He's definitly one of the players that sets the tone for intensity and determination. A one of the leader on what is becoming a team of leaders.

Definitely a great team player. Has as many penalties as H. Sedin now doesn't he?

ahh good old CDC

Is this the second time he's leading the Canucks in goals? I think he had 35 in 2010 and Danny and Hank had 29 a piece.

As long as you're bumping a years-old thread, take a look at this prescient post by Orcatown, way back in Janary 2009 (p. 4 of this thread), before Burrows had spent any significant time with the twins:

burrows is an all around good player. short of putting him in net he can do it all. score, defend, pp, pk, shootout, even wins fights with refs. BTW is that ref (Stephane Auger I think) still around the NHL?

No. Retired. At age 41. Suddenly.

Globe and Mail story at the time inferred that it wan't his choice. Most NHL referees, when they announce their retirement are given a "farewell" season and in general, don't earn enough to retire at age 41.

The amount of times Burrows gets knocked down in front of the net with no call is ridiculous. But he still goes back for more. Great clutch player, glad to have him.

I don't really think most of the time it is deserving of a penalty, because you have to expect to get knocked around when you go to the dirty areas. That is why I love Burrows, he is willing to do whatever it takes.

I think so. He had so many SH goals that year.

Good find.

Looks like orcatown called it first!

I am down with that, but the problem is you see that called all the time. Especially when it's the SECOND guy that comes in late. As we all hope for, some consistency would be nice-ish.

generally they call any crosschecks after the whistle... unless its burrows getting hit.

I don't see it, if he finishes strong he may end up in the Ring of Honor or something.
