He's the typical over-ager on a good team who is putting up points playing with extremely talented line-mates.

Fournier will get an AHL deal to prove his worth. I like him, just not enough for a draft pick.

Fournier is not just a leetch that puts up points, he has good size and uses it to play physical, drop the gloves and drive the net. He may develop into a good 3rd line NHLer.

We couldn't draft him even if we wanted to, he is a free agent...I was proposing to sign him.

Got the threads mixed up. Thought I was in the draft thread when I posted my response.

Isn't he the Captain of his team, too ?

Could mean he has also some leadership qualities.

Hopefully Habs' scouts in the Q are keeping an eye on him.

He's not captain, that's Trey Lewis I believe.

But Fournier could be a guy Timmins took a look at when scouting Halifax. He goes to the dirty areas and has a scoring touch, but he's an average skater. He's not your typical 'Q overager, as he's neither small nor soft. He's actually a pretty good hockey player whose game could translate, given that he improves a few aspects of his game.

Nope it's Fournier...

As far as your analysis, I was thinking the same. The type of player we need to add. May require 3 years AHL but could be a good 3rd or 4th line guy at 24-25 who can chip in offense, play in defensive situations, drop the gloves and play physical...a bit of everything.

Call me crazy, but I fondly remember Trey Lewis with the C earlier this year. Maybe they rotate?

They are Co-Captains

Quote:
Stefan Fournier, a 20 year old forward from Dorval, Quebec and 19 year old Trey Lewis from Aldouane, New Brunwick will co-captain this year’s Club. Lewis will assume the duties as Captain during home games for the first half of the season, while Fournier will Captain the Club on the road. The two will switch duties mid-season

Not sure why Grigo wasn't the one sacrificed....I mean, there was a possibility he'd be going to the NHL, so might as well give him to a team that would probalby not pay too much because of that possibility but yet take the chance and you keep the 2 Euros you KNOW for sure you'll keep. I guess it's easier to say it now...

I don't think anyone really tought Grigo would stay up there for so long, though I guess Darcy had other plans

But the possibility was more there....and you had to figure out that the chances would also be greater he'd be gone next year. While both Sorensen and Kucherov will be back next year.

Stevie Yzerman has sure drafted a lot of talented Russians in the last two years. Namestnikov,Kucherov,Nesterov,Vasilievski and Gusev the Tampa Bay Lightning are going to be a very fast talented team in 3-4 yrs.

Are they all represented by Larionov? You'd have to think that he's good buddies with him for obvious reasons and has his word that they'd come over.

I remember watching a WHL playoff game last year between Edm/Moose Jaw the semi-final series. They interviewed Yzerman and while they were talking,Stevie turns to say hi to Gusev who just happened to be there with his agent Larionov.Yzerman covering his bases and not gambling draft picks, getting Gusev with the 202nd pick overall.Gusev was the high-scoring LW on the Russians first line the last two years at the WJHC's.So yes I assume he's got their commitments.
