If we lose against Boston tonight, wich seems more then likely, I honestly think we'll have a shot at selecting in the top #8 and if that's the case, I can see us getting a shot at Lindholm, Shinkaruk or Monahan.

Even if the Flyers pick before us, they have to take a d-men (Daniel Nurse), cause all of their assets are up front.

Any of those 3 forwards would be a massive shot in the arm to our team.

Game 4 between Medicine Hat and Edmonton and a Shinkaruk SHG gives the Tigers their first lead of the series.

Yeah but a team with multiple 1st rounders could afford to nab him and still get another good player just in case. Can see Buffalo nabbing him to play with Grigorenko and they still have another 1st.

Calgary and Columbus both have 3 firsts but with CGY likely picking MacKinnon 1st - Nicushkin may not still be there when their 2nd pick comes around.

As long as we don;t go on a futile winning streak here at the end, we will likely be picking in the top 10 and that should mean a shot at one of the "next three" forwards, Monahan, Lindholm, and Shinkaruk and I'd be estatic to land one of them.

I'm penciling Nichushkin into the obvious spot: Tampa Bay.

His 3 year deal is nothing new and he has incredible promise as a great player. Plus teams around the league are looking at Tarasenko and wondering why they couldn't have wait a few years to land a great prospect like that. Nichushkin won't drop very far.

I know it's not a popular view, but I'm not against restocking this year.

I wanted him with the 7th rounder last year but I can see why no one did. Slepy would be awesome.

Anyone who would pass on Nichushkin just cause he has a 3 year deal with a KHL team is out of their damn mind. Draft the BPA and that's that. It's not as if we're a prospect away from being gangbusters in the East.

Yea I don't see the problem with drafting Nichushkin. He probably could use another 2 years in the KHL anyway.

I'd be fine with drafting Nichushkin, as long as we're sure he'll come over eventually. Adding on to what CJ Richey said, we'd probably spend at least two years developing him in Albany anyway.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but if the Devils get a high enough pick, I wouldn't be against the Devils looking to deal their pick back for one of the teams with multiple later 1st rounders to offer up in exchange (Calgary/Columbus).

Thing is, in the KHL, the kid could make some serious cash compared to coming here for entry level money - and if with NJ, no bonus money either....that's very risky for any team.

Some Russian kids want to stay in Motherland for a while because it offers them a better chance to make Team Russia for Sochi 2014.

Still some NHL teams will pass on Nichushkin because they won't want to wait 3 another years before he makes the jump. Somehow, a similar situation to Kuznetsov. IMO.

Depends on where those picks end up. Columbus right now would (off the top of my head) something like 12/15/20. Calgary would have 3/22/29. I probably wouldn't trade a pick around #10 for #22 and #29. At #10, we're probably looking at a Shinkaruk/Erne. If Columbus were to offer #15+#20, I'd have to think about it.

(Back in 2007, Jarmo Kekalainen really wanted Jakub Voracek. St. Louis offered #9 and #24 to Edmonton to move up to #6 but were rebuffed.)

Trading for more picks is always dangerous (even though I did so in my mock draft a few pages back). Historically, the team trading up tends to do much better than the team trading down.

The cautionary tale would be Anaheim in 2008. They allegedly wanted Erik Karlsson, but figured they could trade down and accumulate picks to replenish their prospect pool. They turned #12 into #17, #35, and #39. On paper, that seems like pretty decent value.

Ottawa then traded up from #18 to #15 and sniped Karlsson. Anaheim ended up with Jake Gardiner instead at #17. With the extra two picks, they ended up with Nic Deschamps and Eric O'Dell.

It'll really depend on who the staff likes. Personally, I see that top tier of 8 and then a decent middle tier of ~dozen. With the slide, I'd almost rather try to trade up into that top tier if possible.

Hypothetically if Monahan/Lindholm/Nichushkin/Shinkaruk/Erne are taken and we're looking at defense (Zadorov/Ristolainen) being the BPA, then I'd look into trading down for an extra pick.

Doesn't worry for Shinkaruk because it's pronounced Shin-care-Ik

Nitpicking I know

It's not really a common occurrence for Russians to stay in the KHL, at least ones that get selected high in the draft. A lot of guys have come to North America and failed in the AHL then gone back to Russia, not many have stayed long after being drafted.
