I hang up before they finish. I wouldn't do Skinner and their 1st for Staal.

I dont see many trades right now..

I see maybe ROR revisited if Brich is bought out this summer (most likely next).. But no way staal and Girardi are traded.. MDZ is the only dman that will be traded and thats a huge if.. guy wants to be in NYR and will only get better.. we got to stop trading young pieces and just be patient and develop our young guys and team.. we need that chemistry back..

If Brich is bought out this summer.. you guys think brass could be a 2c and step up?

if so id like to bring in Horton this summer as long as hes not demanding a lot no more then 5m..

Nash-Step-Callahan
Clowe-Bras-Horton
id love Horton but if he came here, he would be hurt with a concussion in his first game with the NYR luck.. but seriously id take that risk. he is a solid player..

I love Staal but I would take that and run if I'm Slats. In my opinion if your ever going to get a team to overpay for Marc it would be Carolina so they can complete their Staal collection.

So false.

One of the top shutdown defenseman in the league for a 30(ish) goal scorer?

Sorry but Slats doesn't/wouldn't make that move, and rightfully so.

Skinner has to be one of the most overrated guys on HFboards.

Agreed, but Skinner is not overpaying. Nor is Skinner and a first. Skinner, 1st, and McBain/Faulk and now we're talking.

Look at the package Shero got for Jordan. We should demand nothing less than the value they received.

That would peek my interest for sure. It all depends on if Marc decides he wants to play with his brothers. If he does, Sather better get something for him before UFA. I like Skinner, Faulk, Rask.

Carolina isn't going to be able to afford Staal without moving one of their big contracts. They have 42m tied up long term in 7 players

Skinner has looked awful this year.

I could see the Faulk and the 1st idea. Another young d and a right handed one to boot. That would balance things better for us. Faulk would probably also help the pwp more than Staal but he's not nearly on the same level as Staal as far as shutting down other team's better players. The first would be an early if it's this year because the Hurricanes are not making the playoffs--somehow I think Carolina wants something else coming back--a good prospect like say Christian Thomas.

Skinner is THE whiniest player in the league. Such a little baby.

Not to mention that horrible contract extension he got.

Skinner hasn't looked as good anyway. Maybe he needs a change of scenery but straight up for Staal he would not be enough.

Unless I'm absolutely sure Staal wants to leave NY, I don't move him for anything less than a massive overpayment. He's the best defender we have. Yeah, I said it.

we're not trading dmen!! hahah its the stregth of our team.. if we didn't trade them for nash, why would we trade them otherwise..

especially top 4 RD, i said numerous times RHD are always hot commodities.. they are the hardest position to fill besides a number 1c..Girardi is here long term.. and staal is our staple our d falls apart when hes off the ice.. MCd enough said.. MDZ is the question mark, but hes young, good contract and wont demand serious $$ in the future he doesn't want to play anywhere else..

all these guys will be here long term..

i can see kreider or miller being trade before staal mcd or Girardi..

Seconded. Health is certainly a concern for Staal, but I think a lot of people underestimate just how damn good he is when healthy.

Because eventually we aren't going to be able to afford them all. Staal is going to be worth $5-6m on his next deal. Girardi is going to be worth $5-6m on his next deal. McDonagh is going to be worth $5-6m after the contract he's going to get this summer is up. Del Zotto is going to be worth $4-6m on his next contract, depending on how he plays next year.

This is exactly why we drafted Skjei and acquired Moore, and are eagerly anticipating McIlrath. The pipeline has to stay open, because eventually these players cost too much in a capped world.

Skinner also has a history of concussions and what not... fairly risky.

P.S. They'd have to name them the Carolina Staals.

Only if they were an awful country or southern rock act.

Yes and yes - these two points are not mutually exclusive. Staal is currently our best D (although bear in mind that he has years of development over McD, MDZ, Moore, Skjei, McI). However, we will not be able to keep all of our current top D much longer, due to the contracts they'll all demand (and receive) over the next two years. Consequently, we will need to move one and fill up the pipeline behind him. It could be MDZ, it could be Staal, it could be Girardi.

Given Staal's connection to Carolina, it's entirely conceivable that he's the most likely to want to go - and therefore the most eligible to get traded. Given that he's got two years left on his contract (and his aforementioned skill), he might well also garner the highest return. So, it's not an idle question to consider.

ONE of them will have to be moved sooner or later (or else lost for nothing). The only question is which one - and when.

Why is this so hard to understand?

Something tells me that Girardi is the most likely to stay, simply because he's the only RD of the group.

Girardi is clearly the odd man out. The only thing that would keep him here is being a RD. Is that a good enough reason to get rid of three stud dmen? The other three are just simply better defensemen and younger to boot, Sather would be foolish to let any of them go unless we're getting back someone like Taylor Hall, which probably isn't happening.

Yes, that's a good enough reason to keep Girardi and trade one of the other three. I'd rather have two great LD and one excellent RD than 3 great LD and no one even close to their level for them to play with. It's about building a roster, not about collecting talent.

By the way, Faulk is a right-D.

Not if the RD is Girardi. Hopefully I'm wrong on him and he's been playing injured this year or something but he has been horrible and cost us games. MDZ looked great playing on the rightside with Staal, he was still able to put up points and play well defensively. I just don't see a good reason to trade our best defensemen right now in Staal, our defensemen with the most potential in McD and our best offensive defensemen in MDZ unless its a massive overpayment from the other team. Girardi brings nothing that any of them don't already.
