Moreau

This was in the Journal prior to the Vancouver game.

Quote:
PLAYING HURT

Ethan Moreau has a torn pectoral muscle on his right side, but he'll be back tonight against the Vancouver Canucks after missing the Dec. 23 game in Calgary.

"Doc (David) Reid says he's never seen that in all his years (treating hockey players)," said Moreau, who felt something go in Los Angeles on

Dec. 16 when he was pushing a defenceman away as the blueliner was doing the same to him.

"It's going to be with me the rest of the year. It only hurts in certain situations. It's weird, but the only way to test it is in a game."

It's not like rotator cuff (shoulder) where players can't lift their arms over their head. He can feel it more when he makes a swimming motion with his right arm.
Moreau left the game in the first period after reagravating a shoulder injury only playing 5:12. According the part of the article from the Journal prior to the Vancouver game, Moreau has a torn pectoral muscle in the right side. Players in the NFL have undergone season-ending surgery with the same or a similar injury. IMO, the Oilers should put Moreau on IR and recall someone from the RR. It's not helping the team if Moreau can only play about 50%-75%. Any thoughts?

It's the Oiler way. Play hurt. Live for the day. To hell with tomorrow or the rest of the season.

Didn't you know that mega-legend, Oiler dynasty, defenseman Kevin Lowe once played with a broken wrist? Not near as bad as the one York broke last year....but York was re-inserted into the line up 2 nights later anyway. Not to mention the PP point. That night was my most embarrassing night as an Oiler fan.

They will play BG with a sore hand while others sit. Forget that the guy can't fight because of his hand. They need his stare out there....or his goals or something.

Remember Niinimaa last season? That was borderline criminal. The guy could hardly walk.

In recent memory the only Marque Oiler player that didn't come back too early was Salo.

Well Cross was scratched tonight with back spasms and a hip injury. No one knows right now how long he's out either. We all know how long Salo was out with a hip injury.

Moreau's injury is actually wierd as it's normally football injury I believe. Like in the quote, Dr Reid had never seen that type of injury in hockey players. Like I mentioned, in the NFL, players have season-ending surgery with a similar injury. I think the Oilers are going to have to decide what to do with Moreau. IR would be better and then they can recall someone from the RR who's healthy.

Yeah. You could add old Mike Grier to that list as well. That shoulder continually popping out of its socket with every hit he made. He just popped it right back in on the bench.

Its probably just a slight tear and not the type that you might see from a bench press mishap. Those can snap and curl the ligament up into the pectoral area. Not a pretty sight.

Moreau's injury is likely not serious and is probably only painful when he swings his arm out to the side and back, which won't happen very often in a hockey game.
