What Is The Delay With Signing Hamhuis?

What is the delay with signing Hamhuis?

All other Pred free agents have been signed and commtments are quantified...........

The market has been set:
F. Kaberle 2.2 mill x 4 yrs CAR [CAR]
Jay Bouwmeester - 2.17 mill x 2 yrs FLA [FLA] arbitration settlement
Gill – 2.1 mill x 3 yrs TOR [BOS]
Carney 2.1 mill x 2 yrs MIN [ANA]
Michal Rozsival - 2.1 mill x 2 yrs NYR [NYR]
Joni Pitkanen - 2.0 mill x 1 yr PHI [PHI]
Eric Brewer - 2.0 mill x 1 yr STL [STL]
Cory Sarich - 1.9 mill x 1 yr TB [TB]
Wallin – 1.875 mill x 4 yrs CAR [CAR]
Bouillon 1.85 mill x 3 yrs MON [MON]
Karel Rachunek - 1.8 mill x 1 yr NYR [Europe]
Daniel Tjarnquist - 1.625 mill x 1 yr EDM [MIN]
Eaton - 1.6 mill x 2yrs PIT [NAS]
Bryan Allen - 1.55 mill x 1 yr yrs FLA [VAN]
Vitaly Vishnevski - 1.55 mill x 1 yr ANA [ANA] arbitration settlement
Brian Campbell - 1.5 mill x 2 yrs BUF [BUF]
Duncan Keith - 1.475 mill x 4 yrs CHI [CHI]
Zyusin 1.4 mill x 2 yrs CAL [MIN]
J. M. Liles - 1.325mill x 2 yrs COL [COL]

So why has he not signed yet?

And what do you predict he will sign for given he is 23 and has 4 years until becoming UFA?

At 500k

Seriously, though, I do not know what to think about Poile. He mystifies me in the way he goes about his work, and I cannot decide if I like or dislike his style.

I think he bargains like I do on fantasy manager games/video games. Give them the $500,000 contract laced with performance based incentives...but agents don't fall for those tricks.

If i'm Dan Hamhuis agent he should be at $1.6 Million . / $1.7 Million . a season .

Comparing the play of Hamhuis to : Pitkanen and Bouwmeester . (and there current salary).

True, but he has also drawn comparison to John-Michael Liles in terms of value, and with JM being on the bottom part of the list, it leads me to believe Hammer will get something similar, although as unbiased Preds fans we know he is worth every bit of 1.75 a year, especially long term. That is probably why it hasn't gotten done yet, Poile is shooting for 3+ years at a lower price, while Hammer is saying either more years + more money, or shorter contract + decent money.

So what is the latest on Hamhuis.. the Preds are deep at the dman position with 3 of their top 6 prospects being defenseman(Suter, Weber) and they have a great PP QB in Timonen.. So will Hamhuis be dealt? or whats the deal here?

It's a relatively slow portion of the offseason, maybe someone is on holiday.

Hamhuis will not be dealt. There's few guys on the team less likely to be moved, I'd say.

I guess the rationale in me asking was pretty selfish as I was looking at acquiring him in a keeper fantasy league. I was able to get him for Danny Richmond and prospect Jakub Sindel.. I guess that isn't too bad of a price to pay considering he is going to be a 40+ pt dman for a long time.. I really hope he gets his contract situation worked out soon .. camp is coming upon us rather fast.

You got a steal, I'd say. I wouldn't make that trade in real life, as I don't think Richmond and Sindel COMBINED will be what Hamhuis will be\already is.

Interesting that they mentioned Hamhuis by name in the Zherdev article on TSN about restricted free agencies whose teams are having trouble getting them locked up.

I don't think you'll have any trouble signing the kid, he'll be in camp waiting to drop the boom on some poor sap in a preseason game.

Well, I don't really think so, either. I just thought it interesting that he was mentioned...as it's the first we're hearing of it. Hamhuis, to anyone who has met him, is the most humble\modest guy that's ever played for the Predators. He doesn't seem like the hold out type.

From today's Tennessean...Hamhuis's agent says that the Preds haven't really contacted him yet, and sounded just a wee bit miffed.....Poile on the other hand says that he expects it to get done before training camp. It also says not much progress on getting extensions out of Vokoun or Timonen so far.

http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs....608280340/1028

That just screams to me that they want to wait and see if they can get an extension done with Vokoun, and to a lesser extent, with Timonen, to better gauge what their long term commitments will actually be before being able to offer Hamhuis a long term deal.

I bet if neither Timonen nor Vokoun [especially Vokoun] doesn't sign an extension before training camp, then Hamhuis only gets a 1 yr deal, and at the most 2 yr...so they will have some flexiblity when Vokoun's contract comes up at the end of the year.

Probably because he always gives 100% each season, whether he's up for a new contract or not
