No, but he definitely is more physical and intimidating than Kopitar.

Offensively the difference is bigger than it is defensively. Well, in my opinion. I get that some people prefer Kopitar before Getzlaf but it is a lot easier to argue Getzlaf as the better player than it is Kopitar.

As I said, in my mind Kopitar is the same level player as Mikko Koivu is (alhtough Kopitar is a lot more durable) Getzlaf can be a notch above both.

Not even close. Somehow, despite the Cup win, Kopitar remains criminally underrated around here.

Wow this site really is about what have you done lately. I bet Kopitar would be winning this if it was made after last year's playoffs haha

I think that those numbers actually suggest that Kopitar is the better offensive player.

You must be out of your mind if you think that fighting, hitting, or intimidation is worth more than puck-protection, shielding, and creating space for himself and his teammates. Spare me your media narratives.
If you take out when Getzlaf was not getting 1st line or 1st PP time it isn't close.

No doubt. This site rarely takes in to consideration careers.

You mean after Getzlaf had the statistical outlier of his career too? Yeah, probably. But I'd be willing to bet Getzlaf would have won this thread after the playoffs of the previous four years.

And the effort issue still hasn't really been addressed. Kopitar simply does not take shifts off, especially defensively, despite his offensive, well, bluntly, mediocrity

I never argued so. Keep digging bud, it isn't my fault the facts that you attempt to bring up are false.

I think you all are turning my statements into strawmen. When you are comparing the best of the best, do the little things not matter? These players are so close in terms of how good they are, there are no obvious answers, you have to start looking at areas where they are marginally better. Kopitar is a marginally better 3 zone player than Getzlaf, in terms of consideration of neutral zone and defensive zone player. But I do think that the offense talent that Getzlaf has is rarer, and his vision is more than marginally better, so as I have said before I give Getzlaf the win. Now get off my back and find some other player to get your homer juices up about

Any Kings fan can tell you that Kopitar has periods where he does not produce much offensively.

It definitely is close. As i said, Kopitar is bit underrated but so is Koivu. Both excellent two-way center's with Mikko being better defensively and Kopitar offensively. I think Kopitar is maybe a bit better but they are same caliber players. Getzlaf is notch above. Or at least can be.

Getzlaf. When he's on his game, he's an absolute beast.

Getzlaf also has periods where he does not produce much offensively. Every player has periods where they don't produce offensively, with the exception of Crosby.

Mikko Koivu is not better defensively than Kopitar.

Mikko Koivu is not better defensively than Kopitar.
Sure, but man Kopitar still has those periods where you just get nothing out of him. Otherwise I would be unhesitant to say that he is on par with Getzlaf.

Well, i think he is. I may be wrong though. But i remain my stand. Koivu and Kopitar are same caliber players. Getzlaf is a notch above.

Getzlaf just has that drive only few elite players have. Granted he is not using it so much as other elite centers. But when he puts the drive on, he hits a level Kopitar can't.

You serious? Getzlaf had one off year after consecutive PPG seasons. A rate Kopitar has NEVER achieved.

You brought possession up not me, I'm pretty sure Corsi is a possession statistic, correct me if I'm wrong though.

Getzlaf doesn't have to play as much defense because when he's on the ice, Anaheim usually has the puck.
So that argument kind of flies out of the window.

So let me get this straight, Kopitarfan, are you trying to say that because Kopitar would win the poll, that would make him the better player?
