Just a question of time before galchenyuk gets regular ice time on the pp. I am guessing he will play where kovalev use to play and just whip pucks in.

Hey actually tends to play pretty deep, around the goal line from what i've seen with Sarnia and USA, likes that backdoor play. In saying that tho, he's always buzzing around once he gets the puck.

That is an impressive stat. By contrast, Markov has only 4 ESP. Frankly, that sucks, as it means that 5 / 6 ths of his points have come on the PP, and his PPG average at ES is around .10.

It's also interesting that Eller has more ESP than Plekanec, and only one less than Desharnais. It's also (also) interesting that Gallagher is right behind Galchenyuk, but a mere point behind.

On the assumption that players who can produce at ES could also produce on the PP, the young F core is encouraging.

2) Supporting casts aren't even comparable. Tavares is basically playing with one hand tied behind his back most nights.
I'm no Hawks fan, but I thought Toews played with Saad and some sub-par winger. Tavares played with PAP last season, whose currently having the best season of his career in Colorado and actually isn't all that far from Tavares points-wise. Moulson is also one of the very few that recorded three consecutive 30+ goals season, and he's on pace for his 4th.

I mean, Tavares is great, but I feel like people make him out to be much greater than he truly is. His supporting cast is fine, and he's a pretty unidimensional player at this point in his career.

I don't think it's all that farfetched to believe Galchenyuk's upside is somewhat similar to the current Tavares.

Michel Therrien should play Chucky at the point on the second wave; that would make my day.

I'm not saying Tavares is better. Just that he has room to grow his game.

Toews currently plays with Saad and Frolik. But part of that is attributed to the fact that both Hossa and Sharp are out. Hossa usually plays with Toews when healthy. The point about supporting cast was more to point out that Tavares is the singular focus of opposing teams defense, and he still produces despite having sub-par linemates. There is no Kane or Sharp on the 2nd line to draw the attention away from him.

I hope Galchenyuk becomes as good as either of those two, it would be a real treat to have a guy like that.

His passing is unreal, he's picked up his physical game(Granted it was only a little bit), he is solid on the ES considering he doesn't ever gets much PP time. God I love this kid.

He seems to aim for top corners too often... you see him shooting the puck harder than I've ever seen a wrist shot taken, yet he only misses the top corner by an inch or too or something...

In 1 or 2 years, that'll work out :p

To start the season in Sarnia he was skying his wrister too. It could work itself out next game.

Toews plays with Hossa and Saad. Hossa has been injured a bit this year though.

the kids skill is incredible and after watching markov and subban as partners and watching the communication, subtle moves, and the rotation #27 is soaking it all in. if we get a lethal 2nd pp unit then no one will want to take cheap shots against us. that will open up the ice on ES and make our team even more dangerous

I'm thinking that MT would consider that idea at this point in the season and Chuckys career to be a dogs breakfast.

The problem with that is that our powerplay relies heavily on point shots and one timers from the blue line, something Galchenyuk might not be the greatest at ( especially if we need to hit the net) . I understand he can make some sweet passes, but if he were to play the power play, it would have to be on the right boards.

I get that he used to do it in sarnia , but OUR powerplay isn't geared that way. Every team has their set plays on the powerplay and I feel Galchenyuk wouldn't be fit for the blue line because of it.

You do realize our 2nd power play wave is primarily reliant on the forwards since our dmen are incompetent as **** in running a PP. Galchenyuk is a guy who can maintain possession of the puck and make some creative plays up to make up for Gorges and Bouillon as pointmen.

Galchenyuk can play anywhere on the powerplay. Literally. In Sarnia he could play the point, in front of the net, on wall, in the corners, and on top of the circle.

His most common spot though was the right corner. From there he'd slowly work his way up to top of the circle/half wall.

I really want to see him on the powerplay because he was great on it in Sarnia (7 goals and 11 assists in 33 games) and because of his versatility. I think he could add another dimension to the powerplay.

I have trouble realizing, every single day that passes by, that the Habs have two legit blue-chipper skaters in Galchenyuk and Subban. Price and Pacioretty being in that core too and being good young quality players just gotta make you very optimistic for the future when guy like Tinordi, Beaulieu, Collberg come in to join them. We can't forget about Gallagher neither.

Future looks great.

Fun fact, he's 12th in the NHL when it comes to first assists with 10. Pretty good!

Would be interesting to see a Beaulieu-Galchenyuk power play pairing, or Diaz-Galchenyuk when he gets back.

I like the way he drove towards the net to get that rebound for his goal, he's been playing so well over the last 2 weeks

Good enough to face the 5th toughest competition 5 on 5 among our forwards though:
