I know and I ve read on some threads that he might be one of the only quality dman there s gonna be next year, so yes we need to re sign him asap
And actually yes it does matter with the cap, but somehow, I don t expect him to make to much waive about this, I believe Bob will do the right thing again...
problem is, if u give him 5M $ thi year at 28, how much will u give him i let s say 4 years in a new contract ? 8 millions?

Give him what he wants, without him we are screwed on defense imo.

I said that, IMO, 4 million the first year, 4.5 the second, and 5 millions the third year would make sense TO ME !!

Well I was asking him, if we pay him this year 5 millions, and let say we sign him for a 3 year contract, in 3 years, when his contract will be over, how much are we gonna sign him for for the next contract?
Let s suppose that we ll sign him again for another 3 years contract, how much is he gonna make at the end of that 6 th season? 8 millions?
that s what i was asking

Rivet's agent is Meehan as well....conflict of interest maybe???
This whole thing about Markov being a leader is a bit of a laugh. Without Souray and Rivet our D will be a joke.
Markov will no doubt stay in Montreal where he is comfortable. The other two will be interesting. Souray has told many that he would be happier playing close to his daughter and away from all the criticism. Rivet has been here longer than any other Hab but is he willing to take less money than what he could make elsewhere.
They all contribute something the Habs are short off, offense, toughness and leadership. It's the forwards we have always needed to upgrade but Bob Gainey couldn't pull it off.

Trust me when I say...If Kubina can get 5 Million per year we would be lucky to sign Markov for that much.

Inbetween three and four million seems quite reasonable. Especially for the price on a solid D man is these days.

If Markov keeps at least the same pace as last year he should be the best paid player on the team. If he is not getting the big bucks here he will somewhere else.

I expect the cap to go higer (possible TV deal?) combined with a lack of high quality UFA D next year means negotiations start at 5 millions/year.

Cap should go higher, the market won't keep up with the salary cap. NHL needs a TV contract to save it's life.

5 years, $25 million.

That's what he will get.

IMO both the amount and the length of the contract you suggest are excessive.

The finish will be less than your start, I assure you. Markov isn't that deluxe a player.

I agree his worth is maybe 4 or 4.5 mil, but in his UFA year he will probably be looking at 5 per year. That johansson guy who signed with minny got 5 , and I dont think he is in the same league as markov personally.

I know he is not worth it, but given the conditions I have stated above I would not be surprised if he asked that simply because someone else will be waiting to offer him what he wants and more. Let's face it, Gainey has been generous with his previous offers to key players (Koivu, Kovalev, Theodore). I don't see why it would be any different with the arguably MVP of this team.

I'd like to see a Kaberle type contract and I hope he is willing to sacrifice a bit of cash to stay with us.

Maybe 15mill/3years. No less then that. He is arguably the best Dman to hit the FA market next year. If I was his agent i'd be yellin SHOW ME THE MONEY! if the Habs don't another team certainly will!
