Andrej Sekera to WSH

What would it take? Caps need a top 2 LD.

I wouldn't be opposed to trading Sekera but ideally it would probably be in a package to land a good player. We can't afford to trade him for picks/prospects. Our defense is pretty bad heading into next season so far and trading him without improving somehow in another area would only make it worse.

I think we'd be looking for a top-six forward, at least top-nine forward that can score and/or young defensemen that can step in and play right now. Orlov is going to be out of the question. Brouwer might be someone I'd like. I also like Chimera, but ideally, he's a bit older and we need someone more offensively-talented to put the puck in the net and already have similar players like Ott and Kaleta on the roster.

A good player might be available. Our D is pretty bad without a top 2 LD.

If we're looking at a hockey trade, one not including picks and prospects, I'm not sure I see us being good partners.

Washington won't move Backstrom (We'd of course be adding there) and moving out Carlson or Alzner would be counterproductive and pointless in the context of this deal.

Is Johansson available?

What would it take to get Brouwer? He's probably the player I'd target value-wise from the Caps. I know players like Ovechkin, Backstrom, Ribeiro, etc. are off-limits but Brouwer's one that I think can be had and we'd be interested in. Plays the kind of game we need and really would help us in tons of ways.

I too was thinking of Johansson as another target from Washington.

I also really like Orlov but I'm not sure what it'd take to get something like Brouwer + Orlov or Johansson + Orlov from them. Likely a bit more than Sekera straight up.

MoJo would be available once Kuznetsov comes over. Also depends on whether Ribeiro signs with us or not. We have Brooks Laich available though.

Brouwer is also a guy available atm. I would trade Brouwer for Sekera straight up.

Now Laich is another guy I think would help us a lot. Isn't he oft-injured though?

Brooks probably isn't what we're looking for. Maybe a year or so ago when we didn't know the bottom was about to drop out.

Yeah he has a groin injury atm. But once he's healed (or has surgery) he can bring leadership to the locker room. He's not a bad 2nd line forward.

What would it take to get Orlov along with Brouwer?

I'm not so great in determining trade value, but IMO it's Brouwer + Orlov = 2nd + 3rd + Sekera. Not so sure that Orlov is touchable, although he is playing in Hershey right now.

Not really interested in moving Sekera. Only scenario I'd be OK with trading him is in a package for a younger, better player.

No way we trade anyone of our top-6 after this year. You don't mess with chemistry, even if Ribs leaves.

I'd be looking to start with some defenseman (like Erskine) and then add. Or send Orlov and get Sekera straight up.

No point... Orlov is clearly a top 4D.

The problem is the massive idiocy of Oates and McPhee.

Especially with how thin our D has gotten. Brennan, Leopold, and Regehr all traded leaves us with Ehrhoff, Myers, and Sekera as our only established top 4 d-men, and the only 3 non-ELC d-men signed beyond this summer.

We cant afford to trade one of two top 4 D we have (Ehrhoff and Sekera). I would only move him if we got a guy like carlsson back which would make no sense for you guys

I actually like this trade. But i see small peices being added.

Laich and a 2nd for Sekera and a 3rd. Something along those lines.

Sabres sign Clowe or Clarkson

Ott-Laich-Clowe/Clarkson would piss teams off lol
