Yup, Bickell came right after Bolland.

As far as Tallon goes, he inherited the Hawks amateur scouting staff whos record was pathetic. 02-03 were ok and he kept most of those prospects but they were first and second year drafted players in still jrs or college. Previous to that, the Hawks pipeline was pathetic so he had to rebuild Norfolk or restock with the recently drafted players from 02-03 which he did. While the GMs get the heat for drafting as well they should, its my position that they mostly go by the draft brain trusts recommendations.

Your definition of okay:
Babchuk, Keith, Wiz Burish, Seabrook, Crawford, Buff

Pulford was the the GM of the 04 draft.

02-04:
Babpchuk (02 1st)- 286 NHL GP
Keith (02 2nd)- 599 NHL GP
Ellison (02 4th)- 43 NHL GP
Wisniewski (02 5th)- 399 NHL GP
Burish (02 9th)- 335 NHL GP
Seabrook (03 1st)- 590 NHL GP
Crawford (03 2nd)- 145 NHL GP
Barinka (03 3rd)- 34 NHL GP
Brodeur (03 7th)- 7 NHL GP
Byfuglien (03 8th)- 444 NHL GP
Porter (03 9th)- 118 NHL GP
Barker (04 1st)- 305 NHL GP
Bolland (04 2nd)- 327 NHL GP
Bickell (04 2nd)- 211 NHL GP
Berti (04 3rd)- 2 NHL GP
Dowell (04 5th)- 154 NHL GP
Kontiola (04 7th)- 12 NHL GP
Brouwer (04 7th)- 360 NHL GP

The drafting was really good in the years preceding Tallon becoming GM. Fell off a cliff since then. 05-09 we had Skille, Blunden, Brophey, Hjalmarsson, Toews, Kane, Sweatt, Aliu, Smith, Olsen, Pirri, and Kruger that have played at least 1 game in the NHL.

Babchunk, Keith, Wisniewski and Burish were 02. Keith and Wisniewski turned out to be players. Burish has lasted as a 4th line or 13th forward player. Babchunk was maybe better than Barker. Is he still in the NHL or how has he lasted this long, I dont know. Teams hes been with were d poor in talent. So the Hawks realistically got 2 solid players, 1 bit player and 1 4th liner. Considering the Hawks had nobody, thats good... ok.

03 the Hawks drafted Seabrook, Crawford, Kukkonen, Byfuglien and Porter. Im not counting Barinka (34 games) and Brodeur (7 games). Of those, Seabrook, Byfuglien and now Crawford have seen significant time with the Hawks. Seabrook was #14, so yes 03 was ok drawing out Byfuglien. Crawford hasnt made his presence known until Tallon was long gone. Kukkonen is gone. Porter is still around. Another Burish type 4th line/AHL player. So 03 was ok...ok.

04 the Hawks drafted Barker, Bolland, Bickell, Dowell and Brouwer. Hawks got 3 solid players in Bolland, Bickell and Brower. Turned Brower into Danault and Barker into Leddy.

So we can say Tallon had 1 good year 04 and the rest were not.

Thanks but I didnt mean for you to do all that work... but nice job. Elite Prospects or Hockey db has that list already compiled.

I meant game share for all draft picks of all teams for all years or at least from say 2000. Please dont compile but if you do, Id be interested to see the results.

And before 02, like from 1989 to 01, the Hawks drafting was also a jokeola.

Pulford drafted in 2004. He was exiled from the front office until Smith and most of his team were sent packing to save pesos. Tallon wasn't designated gm until the days before the 2005 draft. His draft record is pretty bad, but he wasn't given much help in the way of resources. Anyway, credit and/or blame for 2004 shouldn't be sent Tallon's way imo.

The front office wasn't fully stocked like the big boys until the 2009 draft or 2010 draft so I don't think we should worry about the comparisons to the pulford/Tallon drafts very much.

Smith had a well stocked scouting department and it worked out well overall, I think we can expect similar results down the road with the group we have now. Seems like some players have fallen into Bowman's lap the last couple drafts, hopefully the trend continues. I won't have to worry about the scouting and analysis that way.

The NHL.com mock drafts are out. They have Chicago picking one of Morrissey, Burakovsky or Zykov.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=667710

I'd love either of those players, but especially Morrissey/Zykov. Morrissey specifically would fit the Hawks system like a glove, and Zykov's just a strong player and natural goal-scorer. Kind of reminds me of Kovalchuk. His ceiling's obviously not that high though.

Pulford was running 04 draft with Smith's people in place

Tallon's first draft was in 05

Zykov is playing in QMJHL ,, Hawks wont be worried about KHL factor for him

Most of the KHL factor has eroded these last few years from the threat it was during Alexei Cherepanov draft

So if Zykov is there he is good possiblity

I would tend to agree.. but if a 40-goal scorer in the QMHJL, who's built like a tank (6'1", 215lbs) is available with a late 1st round pick, I think he'd be hard to pass on.

Yandel Bars did a serious spread sheet listing the prospects for the draft. I'll link it here.

WHLFromAbove called it earlier today. Colorado gets their franchise Dman. Good thing they didn't trade Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk for Erik Joh.. nevermind.

Colorado gets a franchise Dman. Florida gets a franchise centre. Tampa Bay gets their MSL replacement to keep feeding Stamkos.

Top 6-7 team will get solid picks. Hf would have a meltdown if the Oilers won again.

That draft worked out perfectly for the top three teams.

Pretty excited to see Jones in Colorado, even if they will be a division rival.
