WHL he was solid, not beyond expectations but at or just below expectations.

AHL has been around the same, at or just below expectations for an AHL stint at the end of a CHL season.

Who said Rielly played below expectations in the WHL? Everyone that has watched him regularly knows exactly how valuable he is to his team and he showed his tremendous skills night in and night out. Sorry he didn't put up the numbers on your stat sheet that you wanted, met every one of my expectations this year in the WHL - maybe it's a problem with ridiculous expectations. Do you even live in western Canada or watch WHL games regularly?

Pretty much this. People's expectations are all over the place. Ridiculous.

From everything I have seen, If Morgan Rielly wasnt Morgan Rielly, blue chip prospect, former 5th overall pick, he would still be playing a regular shift right now for the Marlies.

Considering he has no pre-season to acclimatize, and has never even played an NHL exhibition game, that is pretty impressive.

I find it ridiculous, people place their expectations so high it's no wonder once a guy struggles a little bit that everybody's willing to throw him into a firepit. Maybe having a bit more of a grounded approach and realistic outlook helps to temper expectations going forward. He was an elite WHL defenseman this year, no two ways about that - he's not Erik Karlsson but still a great prospect.

At that age, Erik Karlsson wasn't the Erik Karlsson we know now either.

This is otherwise known as setting yourself up for unrealistic expectations. Not saying it's not going to happen but I wouldn't walk around expecting it to happen.

Expect the unexpected my friend. Rielly could even end up being as amazing as Morgan Rielly

The guy that would be moved would be Liles, if we're moving Rielly it's going to be for a king's ransom

Agreed.

There is one Erik Karlsson in the same where there is one Milan Lucic, one Claude Giroux, one PK Subban.

When guys like the aforementioned players take incredible leaps in development in 1 year, you cannot use them to compare to other players (except for style).

A defenceman of Karlssons calibre might come around in the draft once every 4-5 years on average (or even much longer if youre on the side of people that think he's a legitimate generational talent).

How about we let Riellys play speak for itself, before we start comparing him to the youngest player to ever win the Norris.. He's a very good prospect, but he definitely has some flaws to his game, and we have to see how well his skill set will translate to the NHL level.

What do people thinkRielly top-end potential is and how good are his chances of reach

What would u guys say is Rielly's top-end potential?

And how likely is it that he may reach that potential?

I am just curious by the way.

Elite PMD. Its likely he becomes a top pairing guy. If he reaches his max he'll be elite.

Oh yeah, totally likely that he just waltzes into top-pairing status.

I personally think Cam Fowler or Nick Leddy are more realistic comparisons of his potential than Erik Karlsson. And that is a big complement considering my opinion of how good I think Leddy and Fowler can be. I'd put Rielly in the same category as far as potential goes. Although who really knows if he will live up to those expectations as he is quite a bit of improving and maturing to do.

It also remains to be seen if Karlsson v. 2013-2020 or whatever will be Karlsson of 2012 either.

More realistic than some, that's for sure. He's a lot of fun to watch on the Marlies, but he's got his lumps.

Too bad he can't play in the AHL next season. Wouldn't be surprised if he's back with Moose Jaw

I suppose nothing is certain but this Karlsson is pretty the real deal. I see no reason he would drop off enough to not see him be considered a top 5 D for the next 5-10 years

I think those are totally realistic expectations, but hovering around 80 points again might be a bit crazy...

Progress?

How is he progressing in his AHL career? When do people think he will be ready for the NHL?

Wasn't he one of the last people to be cut from training camp?
