Question about Forsberg?

How long is he locked up for on the Flyers?

and do you think he still has a good 3-4 years of NHL hockey left in him?

so far only through this season, but i've heard that both he and the flyers want a contract extension

He signed a 2-year contract prior to last season so he will be an UFA after the 2006-07 season.

As for the latter question, much will be determined during this season. The original prognosis for return with his latest injury/surgery was around the new year but he is now, hopefully, ready for the opening of camp.

He has as many partial seasons of greatness left in him as he wants. 3, 4...5, 6... Keeping him healthy for an entire season at this point seems unlikely, but whenever he suits up he'll likely be the best forward on the ice.

I'd extend him, and soon, if I were Bobby... As the injury questions might depress the price somewhat...

To be honest, and I'm going to get flamed for this, I hope the next deal he signs with the Flyers is for one year with an option for another year. At this point in his career, he's injury prone and he makes too much money for only playing 60 to 65 games a year. With that being said, we really have no one who can fill the void once Forsberg is gone. Carter is going to be converted to a winger where his skills can be put to better use. Richards, who I think can make a great top line center, will more than likely be the 2nd line center simply because in the NHL, size still matters. If Richards were three inches taller and ten pounds heavier, he'd be ideal.

However, I could very easily see someone like Potulny step up and be that top guy. He's got mad skills all around and might be just the dark horse that could surprise everyone.

i agree with potulny's potential as a top line center, maybe, but not for at least 2 to 3 more years.

Nothing to get flamed about, sounds like the proper action.
It's not just his age and earlier history, it's also his style.
He aint exactly skating around taking it easy.
When he hits the ice he gives it what he has, and if it doesn't work out he gets grumpy and tries even harder, until he breaks and is carried off the ice.

But if the operation plays out as expected he might have 3-4 more years.

Yeah.... he's such a stellar player. Losing players like him due to injuries is such a heartbreak...

I wish him a injury free season...

Dont hold your breath. Forsberg will have a tremendous season over a point per game as usual. I hope he and Gagne can find the same chemistry...thay were something else last season.

Options are not allowed under the new CBA. I don't think you need to worry about Forsberg, though. He's a pretty loyal player.

Options are still allowed. Why does everyone keep thinking they're not?

This is his last year under contract

He signed a two year deal coming out of the lockout. I think is a guy who will not continue to play if he is not at top level player but he has another two or three years at that level left, I think. He is still capable of flat out taking over a game as we saw last year (best example I can think of is the Florida game) and I can only think of maybe a dozen players who can do that with any sort of consistency.

contract extensions cannot be negotiated to january of last season of the contact i believe. i expect if peter stays "fairly" healthy he will be signed to a 1 or 2 year extension around that time.

Where did you get this report that he would be hopefully ready, for the opening of camp?

Just made a trade for him in my keeper pool, so any info on his return status would be greatly appreciated.

The news has been around for a while. He is supposed to hit the ice on September 1st and although he may not play in many if any pre-season games, he is supposed to be ready for the opener in Pittsburgh.

If you need further info, go to the Flyers web-site and hit 'archives.' There's been a ton of reports about his health posted there all summer long.

Thanks for posting that MSE. It looks like Forsberg is renewed and ready to go. I have a good feeling about this year. Goodluck flyers fans.
