Terry pointed out that he can't move anyone out in front of the net at all ... those were Terry's words ... and if you can't do that you really have no business playing defense in the NHL ... maybe they move him to forward over the summer

I just think that a lot of people are being inpatient with our young guns. I'd hate to toss aside Smith or Ellis or someone and then have them be the players we saw they could be somewhere else. I remember bobrovsky's rookie year and Philly thought they had a savior cause he was playing so well and now they let him go and he's Columbus's MVP.

Let's not get too hasty with these kids, Smith almost tied Radulov's rookie records while having a horrible 2nd half just one year ago. Ellis has the best pedigree of a young defender since Niedermyer. Let's just wait a little bit.

Are you kidding? He's 21. And honestly Crispys opinion means zilch to me. He is old and doesn't see the game the way he used to. He rambles about things that are irrelevant, can't remember players names, and just doesn't get the game anymore. I watch the games on mute unless its a national broadcast.

Ellis still has time to develop. He just needs to find his offensive touch, and that's why Trotz said he was sent down.

I'll finish with this ... you can't teach size ... and that's the biggest problem with Ellis 5' 10" 180 sopping wet ... Crispy suggested that the Preds move Ellis to forward and I agree with him.

That Rafalski guy was pretty bad at D too.

I don't know that Ellis will ever be a top 4 ES defenseman, but I think he still has value to the team as a third pairing\power play specialist

I also want to see what he does when he's paired with a guy that can actually play. Judging Ellis based on him being paired with Gill is pointless.

To play devil's advocate, Rafalski's strength was his skating. Ellis doesn't get around very well for a smaller guy.

Really? Have you watched Ellis? I thought he was supposed to be a poor to average skater but he does just fine out there. People read way too many scouting reports. The bottom line at the end of the day is can he play and perform. At this point, the answer is probably no. Does that mean the long term answer will still be no, I doubt it. Remember, Suter sucked at this point of his development as did Klein and both of them turned out well so I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel on a guy who hasn't even played a full NHL season.

We have such high expectations of these kids and expect them to walk in and perform at a high level. While that would be great, that's not reality. People are ready to move him to forward or get rid of him. People are willing to part with Smith. Like I said earlier, we wanted to do the same with Suter and he's one of the top 5 d-men in the league. Some guys take time to develop.

Sorry, but I'm not giving up on Ellis yet. Nowhere near yet either. Plenty of time for him still to go.

Exactly. Keep him protected on the bottom pair, and play him on the PP. He doesn't need size to play the point on the PP. We'll get burned sometimes on the road when we don't get last change, but if he produces on the PP it is justified.

How big is Timmonen? What did his rookie season look like? Either the coaching staff or our announcers had mentioned Kimmo's game as one that Ellis could and should emulate. It's way to soon to give up on him.

Kimmo is 5-10, exactly the same size as Ellis

people need to remember it took Suter and Weber a couple of years to become the players they are, and Kimmo didnt even come to Nashville until he was 23

Suter was sat for the playoffs during his first season. He was pissed about it, too.

Lindholm and Forsberg occasionally played on the same line in the WJC.

I don't care what the rosters says, Ellis isn't 5'10". He's barely 5'8". He's about the same size as Tootoo.

Lets pull this back to the topic of who we should pick.

I want BPA if its a damn who can put Bartley or even Josi down a pairing , yes, please! If its a forward who can mesh with Forsberg, yes, please!

I just hope we can build a damn good roster for camp.

winning the lottery would be amazing. We could probably get Colorado to give us something pretty sweet just to move down one spot. They get Jones, we would still get the best forward available plus some asset. Or maybe Edmonton would trade one of their gazillion stud forwards to switch spots so they could nab Jones

Expectation: #5 pick
Hope: #1 pick and spoil DET's playoff chances and Forsberg turns into a sniper

Agree, where we're picking anybody could be considered crea
of the crop. As long as we don't go off the board I'll be pretty happy because we can get an elite player where we're at.

The only player in the top 5 I'm concerned about if V. Nichushkin

Not just the Russian factor but he's been going up the charts like a rocket is up his ass.
