Trade our 1st rounder, around 5th possibly for Gormley? Overpayment. I would never do that.

Yeah, I agree, but then you're essentially just saying that you want the 5th/6th overall pick, not the particular player.

What about something like our 1st and read for Gormley and Rundblad?

I just think the top 5-7 players, with the top 3 amazingly awesome, in this draft have a higher upside than Gormley. A straight Flyers 1st for Gormley is something I have no issues with declining.

I still say no to that.

This is something I would consider. If Nurse is off the board by then, I would probably do this trade. We could probably get Rist or Zadarov around there and pick up another asset in Rundblad.

...that's exactly what I just said.

Do you think Nurse is really a #1?

Wow. I misread what you wrote.

I think Nurse does have number 1 upside- no doubt. His probability of reaching it is much less than Seth Jones, but the tools are all there. To me it comes down to how much offense he provides at the next level. Jones I have little doubt will be an offensive threat, Nurse isn't quite there, but has shown promise and still has an extra year of development in hand.

Gormley is just solid. Unspectacular. Could be on the top pair but maybe more of a 2nd unit PP guy (especially in PHX).

I can see all those teams winning except for the canes. Kinda sucks that the east is pretty weak this year and we are out.

Pittsburgh up by 1 at the end of the 1st. Boston and Carolina tied up at 1 after 1.

We were talking about this on the Wings board and I'm wondering how likely you guys would be to move your 1st (say it's 5th or 6th overall & Jones, Drouin, Mack & Nichushkin are gone). The reason I'd assume you would consider moving the pick is because the next 2 BPA, IMO, are centers and you guys appear to be set down the middle for the next while.

I know you guys need an NHL ready/close to NHL ready defender with top pairing potential. So would either of these deals interest you?

1) Brendan Smith+44th-48th overall pick for the 5th/6th overall pick

2) 14th-18th overall+44th-48th overall+Ryan Sproul

Mind you Sproul has quite a few question marks around his game and he could be a total bust, he has elite offensive potential.

So are either offers close? If not what would we have to give up?

The Flyers have been on record that think very highly of Darnell Nurse. He would likely be around that spot. So I don't see them trading it if he's there.

The Flyers will not draft Nichushkin. If he's gone, someone good is available, and I don't see them trading down.

If the top five is Jones, Mackinnon, Drouin, Barkov, and Nurse, then it becomes a more interesting discussion. At that point, the team might consider moving down, but I'm not sure either of those packages gets it done. PHX fans were pretty happy with Rundblad + 11th for 6th so that they could take Lindholm / Monahan. That's a return worth moving down for.

I thought that's what I read but I wasn't sure if it was true or not.

Okay, so it would be something like Smith+2013 1st? Quite the price to pay but I understand why; Lindholm/Barkov/Monahan all have sky high potential and would certainly fill a hole in some teams center depth chart in a couple of years.

I have no idea if that's reasonable, but if PHX was wiling to part with their 1st and Rundblad to move up, I think it would be hard for DET to beat it.

I'm opposed to moving down if Barkov is on the board (if, say, CAR takes Nurse at #4, which is possible). Even though we are loaded at center, I think he's a real difference maker. Maybe it means Laughton or Couturier get dealt, or that Schenn really has to play the wing, but that's not a bad position to be in. I haven't seen enough of Lindholm to make a judgment, but I'm not 100 percent sold on Monahan's offensive upside, given that we already have Laughton and Couturier.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Barkov-Simmonds
Laughton-Couturier-Read

They need to get Schenn off the wing. He isn't Briere who is a liability in the middle. Quit neutering our pitbulls.

...what?

Schenn has been playing center for some time, no?

In any case, the argument for moving Schenn to wing has nothing to do with his defensive ability--it is about clearing a top-six spot for Couturier and a 3rd line role for Laughton.
