Habs defensive trio offers

Markov,Souray and Rivet are gonna be UFA next year, montreal will have a hard to sign all of those 3.

So what would you give for any of these guy ?(please don't start flamewar with habs fans please)

you can also make package with other players from our team and let's get realistic.
Habs need a center (young or old) other depth defenseman to replace the guy that left.
habs 1st rounder is also up for grab and you can add any of the montreal prospect pool to boot!

let's start now !

It's premature to talk about dealing them. February or March would be the most likely timeframe to start talking about such deals (well, unless the Habs go into the tank early, of course). If the Habs look like a playoff team as the deadline approaches, then they won't be dealt. If the Habs look like a non-playoff team as the deadline approaches, then perhaps you could see one of them dealt for a typical picks/prospects package.

Unrestricted free agency is a reality for all teams every year, and it is no longer the case that just because a player is scheduled for free agency he "must" be dealt before he walks. Players will walk, teams will let them because it's easy enough to replace them. Also, with an average NHL team payroll topping $40M, it's going to be harder and harder to find homes for any such players just due to cap considerations, especially earlier in the season. Which again points to the pre-deadline timeframe as the time to potentially look at such deals.

I could definately see a package around Stoll and Markov working for the Oilers, but Montreal's defence looks pretty bad without Markov.

Cooke is worth a lot more than Markov. Markov is a pending UFA and he never fought once in his career. He couldn't even play one week in the WHL.

Montreal will re-sign Markov. I would think that if theyre letting anyone go it would be Souray or Rivet.

btw could habs fans stop to make stupid comment on the cooke proposal, ok we would reject the offer but there is no need to insult the offers or look arrogant.

Blind Guardian is right in that you can't trade now just because you fear they will be UFA at the end of the season.

Play the season out, when the trading deadline approaches, see where you are. If things look good, go out and get another rental for depth. If things don't look too good, and you are certain these players won't re-sign, then you trade them. Judging from the last trade deadline, you could get a very good return on all three.

some of you could just relax... habs won't trade one of them anytime soon it's just for fun purpose as should be all trade proposal.

and I agree that the habs would receive more at the deadline.

Firstly, who in their right mind wants Rivet over Markov? That's just nuts.

Secondly, you're not going to get Begin out of Montreal. It's not that the proposal is bad value, it's that Begin is just one of those guys that a team doesn't trade.

This proposal is very bad value-wise. Think about it once again.
