I don't think Gagne can handle 2nd line duties anymore

I think he can do a better job on the 2nd line than Briere. He still has his speed.

I don't know how you can fault Holmgren for getting a #1 D man

Who thought he'd get injured in the way he did?

Can somewhere compare this kid to someone in the NHL right now? I've only seen him play those first 4-5 games, and he kinda reminds me of Brandon Sutter, fair? What's his potential as well?

At the draft he was compared to a less offensive Mike Richards.

Mike Richards seems like the poster boy for comparisons anymore.....

I see Laughton more as a Michael Peca type (in his prime) and others have made a similar comparison

He's not playing now, but the Flyers compared him to John Madden.

Adam Henrique. Good all around player. Fast. Smart. Skilled.

Made sense to acquire a #1D. But made no sense to go for a 35 year old, soon to be on his decline player. I know Pronger used to be a great player but at this stage of his career the price was already very steep. And considering that players tend to be more injury prone in their mid to late thirties it was a big risk.

How anyone can complain about the Pronger trade is beyond me. They made the SCF with MFL in net, for God's sake.

Basically FOUR 1st round picks for 140 games? We gave up more for him than Anaheim did when he was 3 years younger.

Back to Laughton from what I've seen of him play this year for Oshawa I really like his game. He needs to tone it down just a tad (he was a little over the top against the Colts) but plays a great style. He'll be an awesome 3rd line center and excellent PKer IMO.

You still can't fault holmgren because of a freak injury.

How many players' careers end like his did?

That same injury could happen to any visorless player at any time.

If you want to argue those were bad trades, okay, but you can hardly say that acquiring a 24 year-old Eminger and a 23 year-old Versteeg were done for short-term gain. The concept of Holmgren trading away young players for aging vets is a meme that needs to be debunked.
