He needs to be stronger and better balanced from what I've seen (falls all the time, gets knocked off the puck fairly easily), but he's got promise. At the moment I think he honestly belongs in the AHL. Next season or the one after I could see him coming up to the Flames full-time and being effective.

Yeah, I was just going to say - he's excited, skates hard, works hard, falls down a lot.

Probably needs a summer of conditioning to build up his core. A few extra lbs of muscle wouldn't hurt.

Interesting that two posters have mentioned his balance an strength being a issue. I was at the game on Saturday in Vancouver, and one of the things which impressed me the most about Reinhart was his ability to hold his own against the boards and in the corners. He made strength plays against bigger defencemen which plenty of our veteran forwards have been incapable of this season.

Strength along the boards is mostly upper body strength - he has that in spades.

It's the open ice strength which uses the core - basically the ability to make adjustments at speed depend wholly on core strength.

I think he'll eventually be able to stick it out as a great 3rd liner. Seemed to do the right things defensively and be in the right position. Depending on our center depth and his offseason work I don't think its too much of a reach to see him on the roster more often next season.

Ive seen him in person. Way taller than I thought, probably a legit 6'0-6'1''.

But he is really skinny still. Give him a few years and he'll be a solid 3rd line C.

He needs some conditioning, he looked really tired out there compared to Backlund (not surprising). He should be a solid #3 Center next year for us.

It must suck being max, brother was drafted 4th overall, and his other brother is likely going to be drafted #1 overall.

You get that piece of insight by playing NHL13?

Possibly. He's certainly not the fastest guy on the block, but he's got good instincts. The only real negative I can see with him is the physical aspect; a lot of his decision-making looked like it was to compensate for his lack of speed, lower body strength. Some of his decision making looked a little delayed (expected when a guy makes the jump for the first time), but I don't think I caught any of his decisions being bad ones.

No imo he plays like Stoll. Solid #3 centerman.

Stoll is a good comparable. Pavelski of this year might not be too far off though, Reinhart does have an offensive edge.

I'd say those expectations are a little high.

At least Max has the potential to be an regular NHL'er.

The same can't be said of Jarred Staal however.

He looked better acclimated to the pro game vs. the Canucks and had a few opportunities to score; came really close on one shot and finished even with 5 shots. - not bad. He has a sense of how to forecheck to create the loose puck/turnover in the offensive zone although when he is doing it he seems a little out of control. Could form into a great 3rd line centre with the right lines mates to grind out the low cycle. He has to get better at face-offs and hitting but the desire is there and the chances will come.

So for next year, between Horak and Reinhart, who has the higher place on the centre depth chart? Do we even put Horak at centre next year if we get an NHL-ready centre at the draft?

I like Reinhart as a solid piece of our lineup, even after the rebuild. Solid fundamentals of an NHL player.

that, and being a kid with long locks and flow, love the guy's hair.

Definitely see top 6 potential in this kid. Right now if he keeps it up and continues to improve, he's a lock for next years roster.

and scored his first goal (Vs. the oilers) & named second star of the game. Right on Max!
There was a post game interview with brothers Max and Griffin (who is HUGE). Nice to see Street, Horak, Baertschi (also got his first of the season too) & Aliu all play part in a nice spoiler style win there.
