Ruhwedel captained a stingy Lowell D that just lost in Frozen Four. First-team All-American, collected 7-16-23 and +16 rating. Responsible

Amerks top Barons with 3-2 shootout win:
Quote:
The Rochester Americans scored twice in the second period and used a 40-save effort from goaltender David Leggio to defeat the Oklahoma City Barons 3-2 in a shootout Friday at The Blue Cross Arena. With the win, the Amerks improve to 40-27-3-1 on the season and moved ahead of Oklahoma City and into fifth place in the Western Conference heading into the final five games of the 2012-13 regular season.

Rochester received goals from veteran forwards Cody McCormick and Nick Tarnasky in regulation while Maxime Legault notched two assists for the Amerks, who have won eight of their last 10 games, including three straight via the shootout. Leggio turned in yet another stellar performance between the pipes through the first 65 minutes, especially in overtime, when he steered aside all seven shots before blanking all four Barons shooters in the skills competition.

I wonder if they give Jacobs a contract based on his specialist shootout abilities.

$10 per shootout goal.

In all seriousness, he's already a step ahead of Steven Shipley in getting a contract.
(He signed an ATO, is in the lineup, and producing some). You could say that he is doing better than Brian Flynn did in his 5 games last year.

Amerks fall to Crunch in Syracuse, 5-1:
Quote:
The Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch closed out their season series Saturday at the War Memorial at Oncenter, where Brett Connolly’s hat trick powered Syracuse to a 5-1 win over the Amerks in the final meeting of the season between the intrastate rivals.

Connolly, back with the Crunch following an NHL stint with the Tampa Bay Lightning, netted the game’s first two goals, including the eventual game-winner, while Tyler Johnson, who was also reassigned to Syracuse yesterday from the Lightning, notched two points (1+1) in the win. J.T. Wyman rounded out the scoring for the Crunch and Ondrej Palat tabbed two assists behind a 20-save effort from goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.

Alex Biega potted the lone goal for Rochester and David Leggio made 28 saves in the loss for the Amerks, who saw their three-game winning streak snapped. Despite the setback, though, Rochester remains tied for fifth in the American Hockey League’s Western Conference standings with just four games left to play in the 2012-13 regular season.

Yes, Larsson's centering that line, not Ellis .. and yes, it was Girgensons' second game at center last night.

Do they keep real-time stats or time on ice for the AHL?

No, TOI is kept internally, so any reports/tweets of TOI are typically the leaders through a period or two .. see the AHL's daily report stats for what they track.

What? Leggio is the starter (and arguably MVP of the league). He plays the fist 2 of a 3 in 3. Hackett play the 3rd.

Girgs with a PP goal in the first today. Assists to Larsson and Rankin.

I agree with the first part, but you must be joking on the second?

Well, as a whole, last night was the worst they've played Syracuse all year. As for the centers, their possession, motor and skill does show through in average or quiet games like last night. In the thirty minutes I viewed, Girgensons had appeared to lose his coverage a few times in the d-zone though.

First two goals today were the result of passes from the corner to a man in front -- Larsson to Girgensons on the first; Tarnasky to McCormick on the second. The third goal, in what's finished a 3-2 game, was a point shot from Mancari on the PP. Hackett gets the win.

Nice win for the Amerks. Would have been nice to clinch this weekend, but that is two straight weekends of taking 4 out of 6 points. Tough to argue with that.

Hackett made 36 of 38 saves in what was a high shot total game both ways (38-36)

Hackett with another very good performance. It'll be interesting to see if Leggio has a short leash in the playoffs, as I can envision a scenario in which Sabres brass, ahem, "suggests" going to their hotshot goaltending prospect.

While that's true, there's a lot going into that. It doesn't mean Hackett is the better AHL goalie right now, as Leggio is putting up a MVP-worthy season. Hackett would get the call-up nod because:

A. It doesn't disrupt the Amerks as much as calling up Leggio would
B. He has played (very well at times) in the NHL
C. Unlike Leggio, the organization views him as an NHL prospect, so they'd prefer he get the NHL opportunities for his development, as well as to evaluate him and get him familiarized with the team.
