I think that's a very fair assessment.
Maybe I've underrated yakupov a bit, but I'm just pretty stoked for this draft.

Forsberg "fell" b/c there was a run on d-men. There were two forwards taken before him in the draft - Yakupov and Galchenyuk...and I think there are going to be teams who end up looking stupid over who they picked before him. That aside, I think in this draft he'd go top 10 easily.

I don't see Barkov as being the significantly better prospect that ppl in this thread suggest...and re Monahan...i'd certainly take Forsberg ahead of him.

What about forsberg vs Lindholm?
Both play a pretty similar game

you take Forsberg, basically the same age, yet already a leader, and better offensive numbers. Lindholm may have the higher ceiling, but Forsberg has that unreal gear where he can take over a game.

Lindholm plays elitserien which is top league in sweden FF plays in allsvenskan which is tier 2 league in sweden. It's pretty good league but their numbers should not be compared head to head.

The Difference between the leagues is not really big, especially this year since the Eliteserien did not allow any NHLers during the Lockout and players like Kopitar, Ryan, Hagelin etc. played in the Allsvenskan

If Forsberg slipped that far in a weaker class, he would slip even further in this one. There are 3 guys in this class alone who I'd take over Yakupov.

Of the 2013 top 10 who would be a good mesh with Forsberg?

Yeah, that's just not true. The difference between Elitserien and Allsvenskan is quite big. In no way are numbers comparable. The biggest difference is probably the icetime that a junior can get in the Allsvenskan compared with Elitserien and then I'm not even taking into account the quality of opponents and style of play (much more open in Allsvenskan).

Just because Kopitar, Ryan and Hagelin played in the Allsvenskan doesn't immediately make it as good as the Elitserien. That's a blatant fallacy. Allsvenskan is a full tier below the Elitserien.

The best teams(around 6 or so teams) in Allsvenskan are SEL quality. The worst ones are indeed a tier below those.

I'm just curious. Who's the biggest impact NHL forward to come out of the SEL in the last decade?

Backstrom?

Perhaps who are the top 5 forwards coming out of the SEL in the last decade?

Franzén, Kopitar, Backstrom, Eriksson and Steen. Something like that right now.

I assume Franzén counts since he was drafted in 04. He'd be the biggest impact due to his 3 beastly playoffs.

If we added Yakupov + Forsberg to this draft

Jones
Drouin
Mackinnon
Barkov
Nischukin
Yakupov
Forsberg/Lindholm
Monahan

IMO Nischukin is in the same calibre as Mac + Drouin. I'd draft him without a moments hesitation before Yakupov.

Zetterberg, Alfredsson, Nylander, Kronwall, Berglund, OEL, and Holmstrom were all playing in Hockeyallsvenskan at Forsberg's age.

Sweden have not produced much in terms of top six forwards recently but Forsberg will be one to look out for. He will make his debut with Nashville tonight.

I'd take Lindholm or Monahan over Forsberg pretty quickly.

how would you compare his game to Lindholms? Is Forsberg more of an offensive player? I want the preds to draft Lindholm to be able to put them on a line together.

I'd be surprised if those 5 players all turned out better than Yakupov

Don't think you've seen much of Forsberg/Lindholm. No GM in the world would take Forsberg ahead of Lindholm. I also think Yakupov should be higher and Nichushkin lower, I'm not very high on Nichushkin at all.

its really only the nashville fanbase. And we also have good reason to be obsessing about it, we traded our top offensive player for him.
