It seems odd that a Russian with no biased ties to the organization would be a flyers fan, what with the whole history there. You'd think they'd be instilled as some sort of villianous team over there haha. Maybe that's why he likes them though; I mean, my favorite comic book character was always Magneto hahahaha

At the same time though the Flyers are one of the biggest brand names in hockey. We have a lot of fans from all over the place. Just on this site there's a lot of Canadian and European posters that are Flyers fans.

That's true, but how many of them are Russian? I just always incision Russian kids as being red wing or Capital fans considering the Russian connections.

There was a picture of Tampa Bay prospect Nikita Gusev wearing a Flyers shirt in a picture when he was already drafted.

They seem like the popular choices because of Ovie and Datsyuk but I'm sure there's kids over there that like the Flyers.

well his defesnive game, akeson was non existent, so yes hehas imporved as h had where to go but up. maybe if i followed the phantoms i would knowthat. matsomoto showied no interest in improving, thtas interesting.
that is the worst argument i've ever heard. you said he won't get a shot in the NHL cause his game won't translate to the next level and i said what are you basing this on and your response is he hasn't done anything in the NHL. well being as though he's never played in the NHL yeah i would imagine.

akeson has improved to the point that he's actively getting pk time. not saying he's a great defensive forward but he can't be worse then briere and we put up with him for years. if akeson has defensively responsible line-mates he won't be much of a liability if at all at this point. and yes matsomoto showed no interesting in improving his defensive game whereas as akeson already has. so what's your point?

actually i said if he keeps playing well he'll be in the conversation for the final roster spot. to which you replied "akeson will not be in the conversation for a roster spot. he has little to no shot." so what is this arguing all about if all you ever said is that he's a long shot? when did i say anything to the contrary?

if it is indeed Valeri Nichushkin we're talking about he's a huge Left winger/Center that projects to be a power forward. at 18 he's already 6'4" 200lbs and he'll probably be drafted right around where we're we should be picking (5ish range). his stock has been rising especially after his bronze-clinching goal against canada in the world juniors. some even went as far as to say he has an outside chance of cracking the top 3.

here are some highlight videos:

here is the aforementioned bronze clinching goal:

You gotta remember this kid was born in 95. He doesn't really know about the Flyers-Red Army game from 76 other than maybe highlights (who knows if they even show that over there like they do here). Other than the Red Wings, the Flyers have been the most consistently competitive team in the league over the course of his life. I don't know what the NHL broadcasting schedule's like over there but I would venture to guess the Flyers would involved in a good amount of the matchups. Who knows if this report is even true, but its not absurd to think its possible.

Yeah but what I'm saying is that his parents likely were around for it and you'd think they'd not be too happy at his choice of favorite teams haha

Nichushkin looks great, but it's the KHL factor that seems to be blocking him from going higher. I'd want the Flyers to stay away from him because he is signed for 2 more years (IIRC). Failing that, I'd want a signed, notarized affidavit that he is coming to the Flyers the moment he is able, and even then would assign someone to follow him around until he's off the plane in Philadelphia.

Not because he's a poor fit for the team, with a ceiling that's comparable to several others?

flanagan is really really small. it could just be that he's in a bit of a cold streak as he's been quire for a few games now but he's not getting the points. i can see some skill though.

edit: apparently akeson and bordson comprise the 1st pk unit. they play pretty good together too.

I do like how elusive he is. He is pretty small though but he can wiggle into the right spots most of the time.
